That has started appearing below the message box??

Hello Helen, No I understand about that, what I'm asking is for instance sometimes a linkwill just be one word, not showing the www etc but perhaps click "here" for instance. The word "here" would be clickable and takes you to whatever site. Does that make sense? So that is what I want to know how to do grin

Hello HermioneHatesHoovering. Are you asking how to "do" links?

If so, you just surround the url you want to make into a link with two square brackets (two at each end).

So, if you want www.mumsnet.com to become a link, you type the symbol square bracket, square bracket then www.mumsnet.com then the symbol square bracket, square bracket.

If you look at Links at the bottom of any discussion thread (below the Add message box), you'll see it all explained.

SoupDragon

It's probably just to help out those who are too thick to do a link the proper way.

wink

Don't get it

blog.iblamethepatriarchy.com/ my groovy link

LeninGrad Wed 02-Mar-11 22:02:52

Oooh, just started a thread in chat about this.

I can't get those nice little lines under the link I've seen.

Mists Wed 02-Mar-11 19:37:07

Dammit I thought there would be a nice easy way of linking this essential one.

Maryz Wed 02-Mar-11 17:38:30

gah, that wasn't a link. It was meant to be [[ website space short-name ]], i.e. the double bracket and space in the middle with a shortened name for the website system (as in follow the instructions to the right of the add message box) confused.

Maryz Wed 02-Mar-11 17:35:43

I'm afraid to click on any of these links, I don't know what they are shock.

But I still think the really, really long ones are going to be irritating, so the space short-name is the best way just because I can do it.

SoupDragon Wed 02-Mar-11 17:35:41

Or, Flamingo, you could just put the link in properly to start with. I'm sure the internet won't explode if you do. hmm

Bugger, I used to be able to do Trillian's smart links but my power has been diverted by the force that is Terry Wogan's cock.

Depends how you do the 'smart links' Tee.

If you do them like it says --> there it did it for me earlier.

Tee's Blog

Maryz Wed 02-Mar-11 17:25:52

Oh, it did work, how exciting.

I still like the clever ones with words instead of all the crap.

And sorry, it isn't his cock, but was the longest link I could find blush.

Tee2072 Wed 02-Mar-11 17:10:54

Nope. Still need to code for those, I guess.

But does it do smart links?

FlamingOBingo Wed 02-Mar-11 16:56:13

So, SD? The interweb would hardly explode if that happened...but surely just irritating to have to always remember to tick a box before you press 'post' if you've put a link in it.
