Marking my spot as I came here to find out the same thing.

Yes, I was wondering this too.

I put a tick in the box, just in case it might do something useful but as far as I can tell, nothing happenedconfused

<<lurks>>

Try it.

If you have a link in the message you have written, it will convert it to a proper link not just some text

For people who are rubbish at linking and can't figure out what to do with [[ this and ]] this.

so if you are linking to a whole website address it's easy but what if you are just linking a page - what do you type in? If you are going back anf forth between tabs then the top address bar disappears anyway. confused

Why do you need it, though? I mean, why would you not want it to be a link? Can't they just do it automatically?

Because when I do my clever linking with the alternative name, if the website automatically turned the linky bit into a link I'd be left with a bit mess

like this

Oh, wow, it's cleverer than I thought.

No idea why you would want it to not convert the link then.

I thought youd end up with

link{http://http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/10_03/woganDM1510_800x568.jpg[[http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/10_03/woganDM1510_800x568.jpg
like\this}

or something else horrid

It's probably just to help out those who are too thick to do a link the proper way.

FlamingOBingo Wed 02-Mar-11 16:46:09

But couldn't the techs just make it automatic without having to tick the box.

FlamingOBingo Wed 02-Mar-11 16:46:19

?

SoupDragon Wed 02-Mar-11 16:48:47

Not really because then things like www.catsbummouthsRus.com would convert to a link and it isn't one.

Yes I think they could make it automatic - and now I know that it works when I try to do a named link I don't see why they wouldn't.

Soupy I think it'd be funny for people to try to click on www.catsbumsmouthsareus.com

So, SD? The interweb would hardly explode if that happened...but surely just irritating to have to always remember to tick a box before you press 'post' if you've put a link in it.
