Thinking of a fortnight in Brittany next June - with nearly 4 year old and 18 month old (Plus might be joined by another family with a 3 year old). Definitely need to be relatively near beaches - but know nothing about Brittany and where the nicest bits are - any recommendations of where to head?

I live near Vannes and rent out a gite here. I love it down here, but I'm a bit biased obviously! If you want to know more about this bit, just ask me....

I love Port Maneche. The rock pools are literally stuffed with creatures. Stuck shorty wetsuits on my two and they happily compared finds for hours. Then the tide came in and they spent the next hour diving off the little platform with the local kids. We went there almost daily.

sjcmum this is our website (hope I'm not breaking rules here) www.gitegorvello.com We're in the middle of having it re-done too, so if it's slow to load it's because I'm working on it (finally after 4 years!) We're pretty much booked up for 2010, but it gives you an idea about the area & some more info about Vannes etc...but if you do want to know more about South Brittany overall, CAT me...

The beaches in the north of Brittany, along the pink granite coast and near to Paimpol are fantastic although I think the weather can be slightly cooler than on the south coast of Brittany.

Why not try Camping village la plage at Le Guilvenic? It's right on the beach, got pool, var etc etc and is withing= walking distnace to prt/town - great for cycling and very central for all other towns. Lots of operators go - we went when dd was 21/2 yo and ds 3 1/2 and it was very safe nad good fun!

My vote is for the beaches around Dinard/ St. Malo - St. Lunaire for example.

the beach Tahiti Plage at Nevez was the best we had seen - two campsites are near it - Les Deux Fontaines which is lovely and spacious and also Raguenes Plage which is just a walk over a field from this lovely beach. I also managed to swim at St Cast which has lovely beaches and is on the north of Brittany near St Malo. We found some more information about these sites at www.bestfrenchcampsites.com

I also loved les deux fontaines!! Restaurant in campsite wasn't very good but there was a fab one in Nevez! Pools were great on site - longish walk to beach but site was good!
