I need to transport a large canvas painting from France the UK. I am flying with Ryanair and wonder how to go about this. Would I be allowed to bring it as hand luggage?

You could do what they did in Allo Allo - roll it up and put it in a salami grin

Ryanair are very strict about the size of cabin baggage. These are their rules.

Great tip about the salami. grin

Anything more practical?

Did you follow the link I posted? If you scroll up the page it details what is and isn't allowed in the hold. If the painting is very large it looks like you won't be able to take it on a Ryanair flight anyway. Perhaps you should consider coming back on Eurostar instead.

No, you can't take it as hand luggage. Depending on how big it is, you might not be able to take it at all (if its more than 81cms (height), 119cms (width) and 119cms (depth) then they won't take it).

If they will take it as hold luggage, you'll need to pay for it as hold luggage and excess charges depending on weight. I doubt it would survive the experience tbh.

Oh ok. That sounds disappointing. Maybe I should check courier services.

I checked with FedEx and they can deliver it for £70.00 that's what I'll do.
