Would like to visit Sweden this august. We are a family of 4, 2 kids 11 and 8. Really would like to stay close/in stockholm . The cheapest way of getting there seems to be to fly (although if anyone knows a cheaper way please let us know - we are not afraid of some serious driving!) Hotels look pricy - anyone know of any good holiday rentals ? TIA

Stockholm is really lovely in the late spring/summer - we went last year and loved it. My God, it's expensive, though. For example, I ended up paying the equivalent of £12 for a 175ml glass of Jacobs Creek. Dinner for two (set menu, cheapest option, in a touristy restaurant) was £110. We only went for four days as a minibreak but it cost more than we would normally spend in two weeks in Greece or Turkey.
If anyone comes up with advice on doing it cheaply, I'd definitely go back. Watching with interest.
We stayed in stockholm last july and rented a lovely apartment in the old town, it was WAY cheaper than any hotel!
Hotel accomodation is horrendously expensive and so are restaurants, selfcatering at breakfast and dinner saved us tons of money.
Cant remember yhe websites I looked at just now, but will come back to you about them.
