Half Term City-Break with 6 year old

Am planning on getting away somewhere with DS at the beginning of June and was wondering if anybody had any recommendations of good cities to explore with a 6 year old.

Our previous half-term trips have been London and Amsterdam, both of which were great. We'll stay in a hotel (DS thinks that the concept of room service is the best thing ever) and ideally use public transport or walk around. Looking for somewhere with interesting places to visit and child-friendly restaurants.

Any tips or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Bruges was lovely when we went with our 2.5 year old. Lovely boat trips on the river, child-friendly food, easily walkable city, Belgian chocolate as a bribe for good behaviour smile

Or how about somewhere like Barcelona or Palma, which have beaches?

Thanks for the response - I had been considering Bruges for exactly the reasons you list. I've only been there on my own before (business rather than fun) but it may well be a very good plan.

Also like the sound of Palma - will look into it.

Barcelona - stacks to do for kids and easy to get around, also lots of flights and east to get from the airport to the city.
Berlin is also very cool.

Would love to go to Barcelona but was a little concerned that it was too grown-up. If it's child friendly I'll check it out.

Berlin is an interesting call, too - hadn't previously considered Germany.

Thanks

Paris is great for 6 year olds, went there with DS last year and he had a great time (although I was exhausted at the end of it). We live near Rome which he also enjoys going to a lot - but personally for a break with kids I would choose Paris over Rome - although that may be because I go there a lot so tend to do the same things.

This year we are going to Munich for a few days - not been yet so I can't exactly recommend it - but it looks really good, and depending what your DS enjoys doing may be worth a look.

PARIS , and then go to Rome when he is 8, and Bruges and Munich for when he is old enough to drink the beer..
Barcelona and valencia both great too (beaches)

More great ideas - many thanks.

I'm liking the idea of Paris and it's (relatively) easy for us to get to, too. Will look into that one.
