Bournemouth School for Girls

Has this school changed much since I went there in the 80s? At the time it was quite a bitchy place, very academic with little pastoral care. I would appreciate any info, positive and negative. Thanks!

I went there too!
I don't remember finding it particulalrly bitchy though.

My friend's younger sisters have been through recently and were doing very well, plus they seemed to enjoy going too.

I'm not local any more so no idea what the reputation is now.

Just asked DD who is in year 11 and she says Rushdmum has summed it up!

We're outside Bournemouth so she has a long journey which hasn't helped. Academically it's fantastic, most teaching is superb but pastoral care isn't brilliant. She has been quite unhappy at times and I've never felt they were too concerned. Most of the girls seem to love it but she's a quirky individual and it wasn't the right choice for her.

On the positive side there is no embarrassment about being clever there and I suspect she has never realised she is, which is a pity.

She's not staying on to the 6th Form.

Happy to answer any specific questions.

Thanks for your answers, yes I left the school thinking I was unintelligent! When everyone around you is bright you can get a warped view of what is normal. Any other comments welcome.

I have heard it is quite a bitchy environment. Have known a few girls who have left there because of it.

I also know someone who teaches there and didn't want her dd to go there.

Fully aware I am joining this thread way late but just want to provide a more balance view about BSG. My daughter is currently there and really thriving. 99% of the girls she's come across are really nice and kind no bitchy at all and she has made lots of friends. She loves it there. The school is very well run and academically superb. She has mentioned though that a couple of girls in her class have an hour commute each way and that they are forever tired and in a grumpy mood.
