boy or girl?
how old are they now?
schools very very oversubscribed in SW herts
Also really oversubscribed in East Herts. If your dc's are already at secondary school age, you will end up at a school miles away I'm afraid.
There are quite a few private schools around this neck of the woods but I'm sure I heard that they are all full too.

Watford Grammar for Girls and Watford Grammar for Boys are top of the league closely followed by Parmiters.
So if I were you I'd look at Bushey. Nice area and easy travelling to any of those schools.
Hockerill Anglo-European College.
Bishops Stortford High School.
Herts & Essex High School.
Bishops Stortford College.
Sorry cant do links but thought you could try googling.
Worth bearing in mind that to be in the catchment area for these schools you're looking at £££££

You would be unlikely to get them into 6th form at Dame Alice Owens. Massively oversubscribed and people don't leave! Simon Balle school in Hertford is supposed to be good for music. Don't know how difficult it is to get in though.

If you are Catholic St Mary's in Stortford might suit.

Arts Educational College at Tring is a specialist music/performing arts school - we considered it for DD at sixthform, but she was offered a scholarship elsewhere.

I don't think you have to be Catholic to get into the sixth form at St Marys. But having dcs in the sixth form may not give you sibling rights in the main school. (They come after the Catholic criteria anyway).
Hockerill was trying to sell itself as a good music school. They do the IB if you are interested in that. It's easier to get in the sixth form than the main school, although that goes for all the schools in Stortford.

Also look at the under achieving schools, they will bust a gut to have your children. Think of your DCs being large fish in a small pond.

Watford grammar school takes a lot of kids new in the 6th form as those who don't get good enough GCSE's are kicked out. Are you aware that we have partially selective schools in SW Herts? Queens school in Bushey is also a good school, and Rickmansworth School in Croxley. St. Helen's is a good private girl's school nearby. Good luck.

what is your view of hockerill anglo-european school? would you prefer to send your child to hockerill, or to a local good grammar school, like st olaves?
