Private School Places offered ahead of State School.

What are others doing about this? My daughter has an offer at our fallback school if she doesnt get offered a place at our first choice state school. However, offers for the state school dont come out until next Tuesday and the deadline for acceptance of a place with the private school is Monday 3/3. Is it worth trying to ask them to wait or will it put their backs up.

Any advice very much appreciated.

TIA

Most schools will be OK about delaying the decision a short while. Probably best not to tell them they are the back-up, but say you haven't had all your offers yet or that you are having difficulty choosing.

If you did it online fro state then won't it be on Monday?

I thought that too Kanga but I spoke to the local authority and they said the online replies go out AFTER the postal one yet I am sure when I filled the blurb in it said you got it earlier.

Ring the school and explain to them

I have been told it is an HMC agreement that the cut-off for places is designated for a date after state school notifications have gone out so that parents can make a proper choice and not lose money by paying a deposit.

If you are in this position, then presumably so is every other parent.

Well I am only saying what happened 2 years ago

Online was 2pm and then the letter came the next day

BUT I guess she could mean they post them then it goes online

So they:

post on Monday 9am

Online Monday 2pm

Post arrives Tuesday 9am

A lot of DD's friends are in this situation - they have asked the school to delay their decision and the school seems to be OK about it. The school dd has applied to doesn't require an answer until after the state decisions anyway.

RTKanga... I know here that the state school letters are posted on Monday, so should arrive Tues. If you applied on line you can see your "result" from 8.30am on Tuesday.

Aha that's interesting Posey at least if you knew first thing on Tuesday it would only mean stalling for one day.

Thanks for your responses. I spoke to the private school today and explained the situation. They were lovely and agreed to wait until next week when we receive the other notice.
