We have two young sons and moved the Chelmsford area a few years ago. The boys are still very young but it appears that nowadays you can't start thinking about schools early enough. Does anyone have any experience with KEGS in Chelmsford?
My sons are both still very young (ds1 will only start school in September). So it is really really early, I know. Its just with all the hype about "make sure your children go to the right schools or they will never get anywhere in life" I thought it's not too early to look into things. Especially since we live near Chelmsford. Still find it all a bit daunting, I have to admit
nally Not all that many people from Chelmsford on here by the look of things which is a real pity since I would love to meet some new people
We live about 30mins from Chelmsford but know the area qute well as DH worked in Chelmsford for 6 yrs. I have one DD aged 4yrs 4 mths and am expecting by 2nd baby (boy we think) around the 6th May! I don;t post much as I work full time so don't have much time to keep up with things but am going on mat leave soon and really looking forward to it.
if you need a childminder, bear me in mind. i am nice - lol!
I'm always up for meeting up in Starbucks, say, for a coffee is anyone's interested!
jellynelly we definitely need a babysitter, no immediate family nearby [sad}
Will do Nally - our childcare arrangements are in limbo as MIL who helped with DD when I went back to wwork has been ill and we are not sure if she will be able to cope with 2 DCs esp. a young baby.
let's arrange coffee for after the easter school hols

Tyakit - i was thinking if your dd is starting school in september then it would have to be a school in my area for me to childmind her, otherwise i wouldn't be able to take her or pick her up. i would be able to have your ds any time after september (dd2 will be a year old then), but you probably wouldn't want your dc to be separated.
michaelad - definitely up for a bit of babysitting.
Whoose kid? My DD is 4 and starts reception in Sept and DC2 not due until May.
Coffee sounds good - may bit a bit busy with newborn just after school hols
.
Great, let's try and arrange a big coffee meet up in Chelmsford sometime then! Tuesdays are best for me..

jellybelly, still out there somewhere? Have added you to my mates list now. Any idea on the coffee date yet? Tuesday week sound any good?
This is probably way too late for the poster to see my reply, but anyway, KEGS is a really good school, that is why there are so many prep schools in and around the Chelmsford area priming their pupils to pass the 11+, (anecdotally) I don't think anyone gets in from a state school on the school's teaching alone, they have all had private tutors from around year 4 onwards, all of the prep schools include in their prospectus a list of the schools where their children went on to at 11, and they are judged on their % that get in to the girls school or KEGS
Really late answer. KEGS and Chelmsford High School take on marks from their entrance exam alone. I think KEGS takes the first 105 and CCHG take about 120 and you can apply whether you live in Essex or not. If your kids are really bright you have a chance.
Anyway I am up for coffee (have 2 daughters - one 13 and one 3)...
It is a closer time now for you to be thinking about this! My son went to KEGS and I have one there at the moment, and as long as they can get into the KEGS banter then they will love it there! Highly academic and although it doesn't focus on average students, only the strugglers or high flyers, it is a fantastic school with a great atmosphere and rich history
