Retaking part of an AS

Is it allowed to retake one AS exam but not the other to try to upgrade the AS result when not continuing with the A2?

Or would you have to retake all the AS?

Is this new reformed linear AS? Or an old modular AS?

TeenAndTween · 26/08/2016 18:30

An old modular AS (Spanish)

Yes he can.

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2016 18:36

Yep, used to happen a lot when kids sat modules in January, they'd then resit in June with the rest of the modules.

Just make sure the school doesn't cash in the AS.

Super.
So she could try to get the U in the written better without risking the B grade for the oral. And given she got a U overall it could be a no-brainer to retake as she couldn't actually make it worse? (If she kept it all ticking over of course)

What is the deadline for asking for a copy of a marked script?

Deadline for copies of scripts (so long as you're not asking for a remark) is 4th October.

Brilliant. Thank you all so much.

So ad interim I need to ask the exams officer not to cash in her U grade,
and ask for a copy of the script.

Will that detract from her A levels though? I would have thought it more important to concentrate on getting 3 good A level grades next summer, unis won't really be looking at AS anyway as some schools haven't sat them. If she got a B in her oral but still a U overall it sounds like she was quite a way from getting an E.

goodbyestranger · 27/08/2016 09:30

RedHelenB the AS grades have to go on the UCAS forms and it's pretty hard to ignore a U.

TeenAndTween · 27/08/2016 09:31

Red You make good points, but she is doing a BTEC not other A levels. She was only a few UMS off gaining an overall E and was 'unlucky' with the listening section. She's not looking at university.
I think we've got nothing to lose by keeping the option open at this stage, and seeing how motivated she is to keep the Spanish ticking over.

Does she know how her writing section was? A B at speaking is great. I teach MFL and I would say a resit would be completely worthwhile and the B obviously shows her ability.
