My son got an offer for a secondary place at Platanos College and I am desperately trying to find some information from families to tell me a bit more about that college, are they happy ? Would they recommended ?
I just need a bit of reassurance so please can you help?

Hi Mumsy, have you found anyone with experience? I don't know anyone with kids there, I don't think, but I do see the pupils on the bus and they seem fine.

The school used to have a bad reputation, before it changed its name but I have heard nothing bad in years. New Head, new buildings , etc. and it does well stats wise.

Have you visited?

Hi mumsy, am in the same boat, more or less, except have already been to visit. It was on a Saturday, so didn't get a sense of the school on a normal day, but was very impressed by the ethos. It's all about discipline, hard work and achieving your best, and they especially seem to push the GCSE students, who revise at the school every Saturday in their final year. One of the heads of year told me they aim to always stay at the top of the league tables (they've been tied at the top, discounting independent and religious schools for several years). A very diverse mix of pupils with 30% SEN and they seem to do well by all pupils. Good art focus and music is also supported, although only pop, not classical.

Ah, lies, damned lies, and league tables! If you look at the secondary school league tables for Lambeth published by the BBC They do very well in the 5GCSE category, but fall sharply from the school above for EBacc. They do well
with VA, though, suggesting that the teaching and learning is effective.

It sounds as if they are serious about what they are doing if they bring them in on Saturdays.

Hi

I have visited the school on Saturday and met with the head of year 7 , but didn't get any wiser. I was hoping to get more information particularly about the music scholarship, however she wasn't really knowledgeable.
Did not get sense of a school but tried the school uniform😉.
Still unsure but the time will tell.
