Scheme for Sutton Trust rejects (or as they put it those who don't meet the 'contextual selection requirements)
'DS2 is going this week and really looking forward to it!!

Dd is there today - went a month ago for a day too, and has done some work for it in the meantime. Think her day was interesting, and of course I'm hoping today is, but she wasn't particularly impressed with the organisation of it (e.g. some of the reading for today was only put on the website on Friday), and they gave at least one piece of misleading information at the admissions talk!

So whilst on balance I'm sure it's a positive thing to have done, she hasn't been raving about it (like she did about UNIQ).

DD was there today as well : I spent the day pottering around Cambridge.
Its not made her any more desirous of applying to the place so we left before the talk
but she enjoyed the actual day

Do/did your dc have two days of it, TP and Madam?

I drove dd to the first day - had never been to Cambridge properly before, but have several friends thereabouts, so had a lovely day pottering about and meeting three lots of friends for drinks/meals Smile Dd doesn't think she wants to apply either (doesn't like the course), but I will have to make sure to go back, I loved the town.

DD was not allowed into the Sutton trust residential because both DH and I went to Uni.

She went to the one a month ago and then this week.

She was always pretty equivocal about applying to Cambridge - she cannot apply to Oxford because she did not get enough * GCSEs

after visiting the town, both she and DH were pretty bleugh
so I went this time
and came away equally bleugh

so Uni options are lower stress and clearer

Didn't you like it there? I thought it was lovely - had for some reason expected it to be just like Oxford, but of course it's not at all Smile

Yeah, dd wasn't expecting to get accepted onto the Sutton Trust summer school, but thought it was worth a punt just in case.

DC is doing the maths scheme. They were st some open-ended work to do and then go for one day.We live 150 miles away so it's quite a trek! He went to a maths department open day earlier in the year.He went with the school TO oxford on a 2 night residential and LOVED the university but I don't think the uni is what he wanted.Favourite is currently Warwick which is second best (behind onlyCambridge) for Maths in the UK
Talkinpeace There is a LOT of rubbish spoken about Oxford selection process.Have the admissions tutors fffor her subject told her she needs a string o A*. Certainly for maths they were quite clear that potential and interest in maths is what they are looking or .GCSEs are only evidence of 'bandwidth' and there are many other ways of demonstrating this.
