Sixth form prize - great - but why the sartorial challenge - eek

Just opened a letter saying DD has won a sixth form prize (y13) - really pleased but - (why oh why) - her part of the letter tells her the "dress code" for the prize giving is "formal dress". Eek. She doesn't own any formal dress. She hasn't seen the letter yet and I just know hers and my ideas of what is formal dress will have nothing in common - and anyway I have no idea what it means. I foresee uncomfortably protracted shopping session which ends with her choosing something v unsuitable. What was wrong with school uniform one last time .....

Yes. Black jacket is a really good idea as it can have multiple uses.
