This is my first post, so please be gentle. We are looking at relocating next year to the Guildford area after many years abroad to be near ageing family and to seek the Holy Grail of a "good education" for our two daughters entering Years 7 and 9.
Both girls are academically able and enthusiastic. They are currently big fish in a small pond, being at the top of a fairly widely selective schools. Both are gentle girls who will work hard but are not pushy or perfectionist.
We are looking for a school that will challenge them and enable them to reach their potential, without crushing them! We want them to be happy.
We have been looking at St Catherines, and possibly also Tormead. GHS seems a bit intimidating academically.
We liked both schools and hear good things about them but would greatly value some feedback from those who know these schools, including:
Their current school is lovely but does not compare academically. First question is how bright do you have to be to get into these schools, and will you be materially disadvantaged coming from a school that does not prepare for the entrance tests.
Would one be easier to make new friends/integrate than the other?
Views on pressure, pastoral care, individual attention very much appreciated.

If you use the advanced search function in the top right hand side of the page and enter Tormead or St Catherine's you should find lots of opinions on both, mixed in with info on other local schools. There is a very recent thread about Tormead, for example, which for some reason - probably being on a phone at the moment - I can't do to any links to.

Many thanks for replying! Much appreciated.
I found the recent Tormead discussion which was v useful.
Although I have seen St Cats mentioned a lot, I can't find any recent discussion which covers type of girl it suits, happy girls, pushiness, pastoral care etc. Also, Head seems to be at school part-time to allow her wider Education commitments - is this an issue? Lots of praise for GHS at expense of detailed discussion on St Cats.
Apologies if I am being daft and missing relevant threads, but can anyone give updated info on St Catherines?
