I need to express how good and talented my 10 year old is at being creative and artistic. He doesn't do paintings but loves building things etc.
could anyone help me put this in writing?
I'm rubbish at writing stuff like this ??

Do you mind explaining why you need to do this? If it's a standard state school application, and you're filling in the additional information section, it'll probably be irrelevant.

Hi there. It's a form that is to be handed into the actual school which is an arts college.
It's our closest school which is not religious as is our actual closest.
They offer 10% of places to children who have an interest in drama, music, art&dance.
I feel it will just assist maybe with the application ??

Our local schools aren't allowed to select on these grounds, but your situation's obviously different. So ignore what I said earlier.

Hope someone comes along who can help you - and good luck. Secondary school applications are stressful.

Assuming it's state they can't select the 10% based on a covering letter you supply - at least they certainly shouldn't. There would normally be some sort of aptitude test with clear criteria for selecting those admitted under that category.

As titchy says they can't make subjective judgements based on something you write. Admissions will be decided based on an aptitude test.

There's no test. They will invite children into the school for workshops and then decide x

Well those workshops will almost certainly comprise some sort of test - the admissions criteria would be illegal otherwise. All you need do is ensure they know you are applying under this criteria.

Just to check, "loves building things" doesn't sound much like creative arts, it sounds more like technology. Guess no harm in applying though, your DC may have hidden depths.

Yeh he likes to create/build scenery sculptures and design posters to be more precise.
Have a look at their website. It's latimer arts college burton latimer Kettering

You don't need to write anything other than my child is applying for one of the 10% of Arts places. They state that the 10% will be selected on the basis of aptitude at the workshop. Which is how it should be.

My DD is applying for a drama scholarship and has to produce a personal statement for this listing her interest and enthusiasm in performing, encouraging others to perform and appreciating drama. I guess they are looking for something similar.
In our case it had to be the child who wrote it as the will discuss it on interview day.

This is admission to a state school though lonecat, presumably you're applying to private?

Report
Lonecatwithkitten · 28/10/2014 20:34

Yes I just guessed that any kind of statement of interest at this stage should come from the child.

What Titchy is saying is that state schools are not allowed to award places or scholarships on interviews or statements, whoever writes them! They can give those paces on the basis of aptitude tests only. Or 11+ exam if academically selective.

Good luck to your DS , Op, but the pressure is off you! I'd all down to him in the workshop.

(dc) will be seeking a place through the (whatever it's called) criteria. He/she particularly enjoys expressing him/herself through practical means. From written & music stimulus, xxx enjoys interpreting & designing sets and scenery ideas. He/she is able to manipulate different materials, shape, colour and perspective to create wonderful 2D and 3D designs.

Then add a bit about the more traditional arts they are looking for? Even if it's just what he/she enjoys rather then is good at?

Hope this was of some use - Good luck
