Patience.

Sorry, that's probably not the answer you were hoping for.
It's quite specific to area and type of exam, for example, DS1 was doing Maths & VR, both standard format with a very wide range of possible VR question types. So we used Bond & GL assessment for Maths, and Susan Daughtrey & Athey for VR.

If he had been doing the exam in a different county, it might have included English or NVR, and might have been MCQ format, so then we would have used completely different materials.

My general advice would be little and often, and keep it fun.

I found the Elevenplus forum helpful - gives an idea of each county and the best materials. Bit scary chat forum, though.

11 plus forum is useful, but agree that it is scary.
I would research the format of the test taken.
For my dd , I used GL books and Bond books.
-I downloaded entrance exam questions from different independent schools

  • I used online resources such as FREE RICE which was useful for vocab

  • I tried to make it fun, eg we would

play Give Us A Clue' whereby my dd would have to guess the meaning of particular words.

  • make sure her basics are up to scratch- time stables , division etc

  • Get her to read as widely as possible , quality newspapers,,

leaflets through doors

Make sure you know exactly what the exam involves and what board is setting it.
The eleven plus website as mentioned above will have all the information on this.
It is worth going along to the open days for the school as information on he exams will be given. All the schools will also say just do the test once or twice to get your child used to it. Every one will nod in polite agreement and go back to the tutoring etc at home.
