bullying? chilli peppers!

maybe somebody could advise? seems that the 'tough boys' at school are daring other kids to eat chilli peppers. and of course, one must engage or they are a 'wimp'.

Is this bullying - should I politely alert a member of staff? or say nothing.... what bothers me is the peer pressure involved in such activities and the fact that some kids will feel it necessary to capitulate...

I'd say bulling is anything designed to make one person feel like crap. This just sounds like playground stuff, 'I'm stronger/bigger/braver than you'. They are trying to establish a pecking order. I don't think it's bullying.

lf it is just a one off then it is just stupid behavior. lf the same children are asked repeatedly and are made to feel they can't refuse or feel bad then it is bullying .

Email the head of year as an FYI

YouTube Glo Zell. She has a lot to answer for. The 'ice and salt' challenge in particular should be deleted IMO. Hmm
Kids find the videos hilarious, and of course some end up trying it for themselves.

TBH it does sound like fairly normal teen boy behaviour, if done within a friendship group.

Not bullying.
Kids need to learn how to say no

There was something similar involving Tabasco sauce at DDs school last year when she was in year 8.

I think she politely told them to fuck off.

I really don't understand how you are going to 'stamp out' this 'behaviour'.

I fail to see what's really wrong with it, it's just what boys do.

Some will get teased a bit if they refuse, some will get teased a bit if they hoot about mocking gross discomfort. It will pass.

We did similar (possibly worse) 40 years ago.
