Hi we currently live in Essex and are considering relocating to Chester. Which are the best high schools to consider in the area and are there any grammar schools. My children are quite sporty so which schools/villages are most active for clubs etc please?

Chester is in Cheshire West and Chester LA and there are no grammar schools. If you want specifically a grammar school you will need to be living on the Wirral, which is only 10 miles from Chester.
Places in primary schools in Chester are now in very short supply and the best secondary schools are also full in many year groups.
In Chester the best maintained schools are probably in order, Christleton, Upton High, Bishop Bluecoat, Catholic High School Chester, Queens Park and Blacon. I am sure others will disagree with the order and the best bet is to go and visit the schools rather than rely on mine or others advice.

I don't know much about state schools in Chester but its a lovely area. Dd goes to school there & I'd love to hecsblecto live there.

I get the impression most schools there are fairly decent.

Hi there,
If you look on the BBC News Education website, you can check out the league tables for secondary school (Chester is in Cheshire West and Chester LA).

www.bbc.co.uk/news/education/

There are 4 grammar schools on the Wirral, which borders Chester - West Kirby Grammar, Calday Grammar, and the Wirral Grammar Schools, but I think they operate on a catchment area basis, and Chester is approx. 15-20 miles from the Wirral Grammars, further for the others.

This webiste might be useful for you, when looking at clubs and activities.

Admission has listed the schools in a good order.
Whats sports do your DCs like?
That are lots of football teams and a couple of netball teams that I know of.
Christleton High has an all-weather pitch and adjoining swimming pool/sports centre. Upton High has a sports centre over the field with a large outdoor sports area with lots of all-weather pitches. Both schools are good.

Forget to say that there are also Helsby High and Tarporley which are close to Chester depending on where you are planning to move to.
