Hi trying to decide on suitable school for dd for sep 13 entry from state school, into y4 or sep14 entry to y5.. Looked at headington prep which has an interim head who said she doesn't know why the prev one left.. Seemed odd. Anyone know the circs? I liked the girls and facilities there. Went to St helens and head told me she is also leaving.. Didn't have a clear explanation either! haven't yet seen oxford high but would welcome up to date views on any of the above. DD is reasonably academic, and needs nurturing environment that will help her confidence, lots of sport music drama important too. Advice very gratefull received!

not sure when you're looking to change, but if you want nurturing, sport, music and drama, then it has to be The Manor Prep.

St Helens head is leaving due to family reasons. I don't suppose they have to tell their reasons for leaving as they are personal.

Thanks for feedback seems there is great choice throughout the area, just hard to know what you don't know as an outsider and don't think first impressions are enough to make these big decisions so very helpful to know what others have experienced..

Rye St Anthony I've heard is very nurturing too.

Hi Flumoxd. We live near there are are currently in the process of choosing a secondary school for our dd for September 2014 entry into Yr7.

She loves Cranford House in Moulsford and from other parents we know, it seems a perfect choice for her.

Everyone is different though and you know your dd best so will know her strengths/weaknesses and her interests/likes/dislikes.

Is nurturing code for 'takes girls who aren't very clever'? That was the case when I was at school and I hear it is the same now.

I hadn't thought that dexter. I take it to mean they get to know the children very well, and help to steer them in an appropriate direction in life. Also that the school pays close attention to manners, general well being, and friendships/social skills.

Loved headington prep, my dd joined in year 5 and thrived. not sure why old head left, but she was a straight talker which most parents appreciate but I hear some maybe didn't like....I would avoid OHS especially the prep, cramped site with little outdoor place, I didn't like the admissions process either not very transparent. good transport to heading ton prep was a bonus too. Lovely school site and facilities.
