School shoes angst. - does this help?

I have had 2 girls at/ through a girls school and tbh any reasonable styles are worn. They do adhere to policy for black shoes, no boots, no ballet pumps ( though some have ballet style flats eg clarks ones)

14yr old has 1 pair brogues 1pair Velcro mary janes and alternates them.

Even some year 11s are in clarks/startrite kids. 6th form in low heel courts or brogues ( business dress code)

Hth .i think we maybe get too wound up about all this? Or maybe my kids are just lucky?

What are you saying? That you found solutions for you?
Good for you if so... but I don't want more than 1 pr of shoes at once for DD, DD & I both dislike "Mary Janes", so your solutions wouldn't suit us.

I worried about it, too OP. Was all a waste of headspace Grin

It's understandable though and I think a lot of us bring baggage from our own school days. Also sine schools are easier than others (in terms of rules and/or peer pressure to dress a particular way).

No lljkk I'm saying that really, in most reasonable schools it's angst over nothing. Worries about "fitting in" are valid but they ain't really about "the right shoes". Waste of headspace as previous poster said

Hmmm... well, Dd is quite worried about fitting in, I get that, it's the age.
So we need an idea what's fashionable in her cohort.
She can't wear (not allowed) the sort of boots she wore as main school shoes for last 4 yrs.
So we have to get our heads around other choices.
She would choose something with high heels given half a chance.
Then there all the folk on MN saying canvas shoes are fine at their school and all in vogue.
But wouldn't do for us, either.
Needs thinking, after all.

Needs thinking about for us too.

DD is going to need something
-she can cycle in
-across a muddy field
-fitting an H-width foot
-in black leather with no logos or 'decoration'
-that isn't a boot or trainer

She's not at all fashion conscious but the above is enough of a challenge.

lancelottie sounds like she needs trainers to travel in and school shoes in her locker to change into both ways or her decent shoes will be wrecked!

otherwise hush puppies brogues?

DD1 wears Velcro Mary Janes as the only thing she finds vaguely comfortable, that are allowed.

She just wants to know why on earth she can't wear nice 'mum boots' like a million office workers do with their black trousers and be sure of dry feet on our pavement free lanes.
