Roisin · 19/03/2013 20:29

I am prompted by hearing about this school "The Academy day starts at 08.00, all students are expected to arrive by 07.50 and finish at 16.30" They also have a homework support club from 16.30-17.30

Please also include whether your school is an Academy, grammar, state, free, independent, etc.

8.40am - 3.05 pm The school I work at (Academy)
8.40am - 3.30 pm The school my children attend (state secondary)
8.00am - 4.30 pm Kings Science Academy, Bradford (Free School)

The Free School I mentioned in the OP apparently has 35 hrs lessons a week, instead of the standard 25!

Apparently they have 30 mins per day silent reading.

But they've just had a grade 3 (requires improvement) from Ofsted, who have criticised the length of the school day.

Hmm...

My high school was 8.55 to 3.40 i think. Just a council school.

TwllBach · 19/03/2013 20:49

The school bell goes at 9am but pupils are expected to be on the yard at 8.50 to line up for 8.55. School finishes at 3.30 and we have five hours five minutes teaching time. It's a foundation school.

TwllBach · 19/03/2013 20:49

... Foundation primary school.

forevergreek · 19/03/2013 20:51

My old school was state grammar, 8.25 - 4pm

Marmitelover55 · 19/03/2013 20:52

My dd1 will be starting in september at a secondary girls academy that was formally a private school. I believe the school hours are 8.20-3.45, which seems a slightly longer day. I believe they have stuck with the old longer private school holidays though, so this must be to offset that.

BooksandaCuppa · 19/03/2013 21:04

Our local secondary schools do 8:30am-3:00pm or 8:45am-2:45pm.
They seem to be set up to allow older siblings to collect younger children from the local primary schools, although that may just be a convenient side effect.
