Looking for some help mainly from secondary school teachers or those whose children are doing this subject
My son has some additional needs and has a statement , the school up to now have more or less been very good with his academic requirements. Not so hot on other issues ,but that's another issue .
He's in year eight at present there looking at there options for year nine . He would like to do computer sciences , have spoken to head of year and he's fully aware of this .
Thing is that this is the first year the school are offering this subject and are only doing one class . There are 300 kids in each year group , his head of year said that its going to be very fast paced and there selecting kids from top sets who have six now in maths , sciences and English .
My son works hard in school but is in middle set , already has six in sciences , high five in maths , but only a four in English , he now has help from a scribe for this subject . He is really kean to do this as one of his options and does computer club after school and spoken with his teacher , who he tells me is happy for him to be in class .
What I would like to know is has anyone child done this course and suceeded, teacher's have you had middle of the road kids do this and obtain the end gcse.
Any ideas to convince the school to let him have a go . He is hard working and enthusiastic .

You might get a better response from teachers on the secondary ed board. I guess if he's keen, the teacher is happy to have him and it's a subject he enjoys, I can't see any reason why not. What are the alternative options? ICT is pretty secretarial, not a great course. I suppose I'm trying to say, if he doesn't do computer science, will his alternative option be more useful for him? If not, it's a no brainer?
