Year 7 - how much stuff has your DC lost so far?

DD lost a blouse, a set of pens and a lunch box within the first week. This morning she can't find her entire PE kit that she took to school yesterday, she says it could have been left on the bus or at school. No lockers at school and nowhere to leave anything. It's driving me mad.

If she doesn't find the kit it will cost about £70 to replace. I've told her I'm not just going to go out and buy a new one and she has gone off in tears with a pair of knackered old trainers that don't fit and plain shorts and t shirts without school logo which she can wear for a few weeks while she saves up. Harsh or a lesson to learn?

And breathe ....... so cross at how careless she is and how she doesn't seem to give a flying fig!

I should add that she's very sporty and is doing trials for various teams at the moment which probably means that she won't do well with too small trainers and the schools will possibly not pick her as she isn't in correct uniform sad

No, I'd go to lost property myself if a £30 coat or rugby shirt was at stake, thanks, especially considering that some parents regard the LP as a version of Freecycle...

Nothing ..... yet!

PropositionJoe Tue 25-Sep-12 17:28:11

I wouldn't. But the one at my sons' school is run by a nice lady with a notebook and is only open at lunchtimes, so maybe it's a bit different.

My DD left her jumper behind yesterday and it was freezing this morning. Despite my protests she went off to the bus stop in just a thin blouse this morning because 'coat's aren't cool and I've got an umbrella if it rains' hmm

Luckily it was in the lost property but I think she only looked to stop me nagging, not because she was cold grin

Nothing yet <jinxes self>. But DD has a locker, which helps, and she lost a lot of stuff last year which I made her pay for (but without blowing up about it). I think she may have learned from that.

I think they should have have as much help as they will let you give at first. It's Year7, not Adulthood BootCamp!

His door keys, locker key and watch - from the PE safe room! shock But to be fair he'd forgotten them at the end of the lesson and one of the teachers put them in an even safer room, but didn't tell him or anyone else. It took a couple of days of chasing but he got them back. Since then, a few pens and his tie yesterday ( "it was in my hand and now ....( looks blankly at hand) it's not"). Not bad considering he used to come out of primary school EVERY DAY having forgotten something.

PropositionJoe - You are right, he did have a tough start but is starting to settle down and will be ok. I hope!

I went to find the rugby top in lost property because I wanted to make sure he brought back his top and not some other random shirt. And I didnt want to spend £30 on a new one.

However, the kid gloves have come off and he has to step his game up or face the consequences.

Thanks for replies. Reassuring to see there are a few losing things. I've gone through yesterday's timetable with DD and she is going to retrace her steps tom. I've also emailed the bus company.

Suddenly occurred to me that DD is now same shoe size as me so she now has trainers that fit, not cool though apparently although I think they are grin. Her twin sister has PE different days so we are alternating kit, much to her sisters disgust!

Just a hockey sock, which I've given up hope of seeing again!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar Wed 26-Sep-12 15:10:08

Nit, PE socks are £2.50 or something at Sports Direct. Which I only realised once I'd shelled out eight British pounds for a pair in the school outfitters, like an idiot.

TheOriginalSteamingNit Wed 26-Sep-12 15:12:49

Yes, same! hmm

DS has lost a library book he has been given 2 options by the librarian:
1. pay the school for the book
2. buy another in good condition ( not necessarily new)

He had a meltdown last night when I told him he will be paying for it.

I have looked in the local 2nd hand book shops, but they don't have it, neither do Amazon warehouse...any ideas where I can get cheap new or second hand books? smile

This made me LAUGH!!!

(DD is in reception - everything is coming home thus far!)

DD2 lost her water bottle, it was a lovely one from Steamer Trading. Her mentor said he'd ask the cleaner if she'd seen it.. and was told she'd thrown it away shock

On Friday she left her ukulele at school, but fortunately said mentor kindly locked it in his cupboard over the weekend and she brought it home safely on Monday. smile

Lynned Wed 26-Sep-12 15:58:50

Both buttons off his blazer, apparently pulled off by another kid!

TobyLerone Wed 26-Sep-12 16:10:46

DS started Y7 last year and I was fully expecting him to lose half of his stuff. Shockingly, he didn't.

DD started Y7 this year and has also managed not to lose anything. I am amazed, and I realise I have now tempted fate. She has, however, managed to get 2 detentions, both on the same day.

bumpybecky Wed 26-Sep-12 16:31:32

can I join in from the other side? In my lost property cupboard I currently have...

1 copy of Danny Champion of the World
1 pair of trainers
2 pairs of baseball boots (converse type things)
2 pe fleeces
2 pairs of socks
2.5 pairs of gloves
2 umbrellas
1 lanyard 'I love jesus' with no keys attached
4 pe polo shirts
2 hoodies (not uniform)
12 school jumpers
about 25 coats
1 enormous pair of waterproof winter trousers, mens XL size

none of which is named of course! hmm

Katryn Wed 26-Sep-12 16:46:38

A plea from a teacher for names on EVERYTHING! Can't even begin to help you if I can't tell which one belongs to your child.

frazzledbutcalm Wed 26-Sep-12 19:52:15

Hi all, not year 7 but ...
In reception class the children had had PE. All children dressed, teacher holds up a pair of boys undies ... Which boy do these undies belong to? .. Cue 15 boys all dropping their trousers to check if they had undies on or not!! grin

Thought it might give you all a smile smile

EcoLady Wed 26-Sep-12 20:21:55

Uniform sweatshirt was lost after PE at the start of week 2. Didn't turn up in lost property. Wasn't found in changing rooms later.

Reappeared in PE changing rooms 10 days later! Phew :-) Looks like someone took it home in error and slipped it back without saying anything.
