School application form - church attendance

For one of the schools I want my DD to go to it asks for a seperate supplementary form. On the form it asks for the parent and the child's church attendance and how long this has applied. There are seperate tick boxes for putting Weekly, Regularly, Monthly, Rarely and Never for the child and the parent. There is then one joint question "How long has this applied?" I have been going to church weekly for years (10+) but my DD has only been coming the last 18 months regularly with me. What do I put on the form? I don't want to mislead anyone. There doesn't seem to be any room to write any comments on it.

Put weekly. No chance around here if not.

And for how long you have been going.

Your priest would normally have to confirm what you are putting on the supplementary form. Does the form ask how long you have been attending mass?

Have a look and see how long they require attendance at church for. Some schools require 3 years weekly mass attendance, for some 2 is enough. For very oversubscribed schools you don't have a chance unless you can say weekly attendance for the prescribed period. Hope that helps

Agree with above, as in, for the really top catholic schools unless weekly you can more or less forget about even featuring on the short list. Others are less stringent.

Forms about church attendance can apply to C of E secondary schools as well as Catholic. If you are in any doubt I would check with the school- my dds school does explain the form very clearly at Open Evenings etc.. It is possible that your dds attendance may count as well, but for schools near me the church attendance requirement is for at least 3 years. Attendance at church groups such as Brownies, Guides, youth clubs may also count as well.
Usually these supplementary forms do need to be signed by a vicar or minister (depending on the type of church that you attend).

I just think that if its one of those oversubscribed catholic schools where the requirements are 2/3 years of weekly attendance (not to mention holy communion, baptism before 6 months and or active in the church, etc, etc, etc), save your time even filling in the application form and look elsewhere. The real elite Catholic schools are already oversubscribed by those who do fulfil their requirements of say 2/3 yrs attendance, before they even get to those with only 18 months.

I don't mean to sound harsh at all, just trying to keep it real for you. Check out the school's admission criteria with a fine tooth comb and give them a call also to establish if they have ever allocated places to those with less years attendance than they specify.
