Finding a non selective secondary school in surrey area

My daughter's school closed down this week so we now have to find a new school in 4 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions, we are looking for a private or state school within the surrey area, she will be going into year 9.

Where do you live? State by contacting SurreyCC for state school places.
Farnborough Hill is often a good bet, or St Thereseas or Manor House.

How stressful. Presumably the council advises on availability of state school places? In the circumstances, wouldn't any selective secondaries with spaces available do some kind of ad-hoc assessments?

Both secondaries in Dorking very good. Surrey's a big place - where do you live?

Cointreau - I think OP is near Pryford as from the other education boards another poster has mentioned a small all through school there that closed last week.

OP - I have pm'd you a couple of suggestions assuming this is right.

Or is this the Wokingham school which closed?

Surrey is a big county. Can you narrow down the search area?

Sorry I meant Pyrford, just outside Woking, probably same school mummytime is referring to.

Try Claremont in Esher. It's not too academic and has a good current reputation among parents. Not too far from Pyrford area - about 15 mins drive.

Notre Dame in Cobham is well thought of. There are schools in the Guildford area too, though as we don't have girls, I'm afraid I don't know much about them.

Howard of Effingham has a great reputation - that's not too far from you, but it's state so probably has a very small catchment area 9may relax a little as you move up the school.

Are you near a train station?
The Royal School in Haslemere is very nuturing and gets very good GCSE results. They collect and drop girls from the train station in Haslemere by minibus.

Pyrford is a long way from the Howard's catchment boundary and, unless entering in Y7, families living within the catchment usually go on the waiting list.

Second the Royal School in Haslemere, my DDs have just had excellent GCSE results (straight A*/As) , as have their friends there. It's not academically selective, but gets great results, and really focuses on helping each individual girl reach their potential..

Places often come up at state schools. If you want a place at the Howard of Effingham then there is no harm in asking. My nephew goes there and loves it.

You are not far from the Hampshire Boundary
you could do a LOT worse than contacting any of the schools around Farnborough and Camberley.
They are comps but if you have been used to private, look ONLY at what they do with their top third to see who your DD will be socialising with :-)
