Some schools are better than others at passing on info, TBH, so most schools do their own testing (often CAT) and set accordingly. I have had new students bring books in but no, you don't need to send them all in.

Thanks balia. I thought that may be the case. I suppose if he has the book he could show it to the teacher if he wants.

It's always interesting to see what a student has been working on - and if you feel he has been wrongly placed in a set his book might be handy.

It can be a nightmare changing schools and getting the right information to the right people. Good luck: hope it goes well for you. It's a good time to move, I think. As they have a while to get the measure of him and put him in the right sets before options choices time.

Do you have a recent 'summary assessment' with his targets and grades on from his own school? Tbh if this were me I would print up a little postcard saying something like:

"Babysparklingbrook is new and we hope he will settle in very quickly in your class. For your information attached is the most recent data of his achievement at previous school.

If you have any queries or want to advise me of anything we can do to help Babysparklingbrook settle in or catch up, please contact me using the details below."

Thanks Roisin I will do that-anything we can do to help can only be a good thing. I have his last report from February and the school have a copy of it already.

I originally wanted him to finish the year at his existing school, but I now see this is a better plan. He will get 4 weeks in of Year 8 and can find his way around a bit.
