As above - we have seen the play on stage but I promised I would try and get a good film version. I know there is one by roman Polanski. Are there any others?

And which is the best study guide - up to gcse level only. Thanks.

Hi Avocets - the Roman Polanski version is not strict to the text but does give a good sense of the story. Plus you get to see Keith Chegwin as a singing boy!

If memory serves the BBC produced versions of all the main Shakespeare's. Alternatively here is an RSC version with good reviews:

Polanski is wicked - pretty faithful (except for the ending) and gory enough to hold the attention of gcse aged kids.

York notes are usually ok, and if cgp guides do one on Macbeth I'd recommend it simply because they are so thorough and simple to follow.

Saw him at the Chichester festival, it was a very good interpretation.
York notes are the standard study guides, but I'd buy the York notes advanced as well so that you can get an overview too.
Here's an online notes guide
