I have just been reading a thread on the TES about how the new system GCSE (with harder grades) means dc will have to go back to revising at home and not rely on school...don't all dc revise at home??

DS is in year 9 so has not got to GCSEs yet, but yes, he revises at home. His end of year exams are at the beginning of May (I know that makes no sense, but that is when they are!) and we will be starting revision for them this weekend.

DD year11 puts in a couple of hours most nights plus normal homework. I didn't realise that revision had been optional till now.

Can you link the TES thread please? I can't find it, and am currently stressing about the GCSE changes. I was fine with changing to linear, but can't get my head around the changes to make them generally more difficult.

DS1 in Year 11 has always revised at home. In addition to that the school does revision classes in many subjects during lunch and after school so he stays behind for an hour several days a week.
He plans to start full on revision at Easter.
DS2 in Year 9 is likely to fall into the new regime which will be hard on him for many reasons, not least the fact that he follows a brother who gets A* in everything he does. So if his grades are lower because of the rule change he will feel even more of a failure.
Needless to say it's DS2 who makes the comparison with DS1 not me.
