Ascot to RGS Guildford

Hi All, I need some help. My son has been offered a place at RGS Guildford, starting this September.

We live in Ascot and was wondering if someone would help us with ideas/ thoughts on how their children travel to RGS Guildford from Ascot. I know there are trains, but I have just checked the train journey is 1 Hour each way.

Thanks.

Train. Most of my sons peers just used the train.unless ascot is one of the coach stops. Have you asked for the coach routes
But train is most likely. Don't forget the will soon be travelling with friends and doing homework studying. An hour is not the longest route - boys travel in from miles.
Have you really not checked this out until now?

I didn't think RGS had many coaches? It's one of the biggies for us if DS1 wants to go there, as if you're not on the Guildford line the train journey includes at least one stop not to mention the travel to and from the train station.

They don't have many. But I am pretty sure they do one or two as I used to walk past them arriving in the morning.
I couldn't have always been drunk.

Website says no coaches www.rgs-guildford.co.uk/page_viewer.asp?page=FAQs&pid=390

Seems a bit daft, really, as it really means if you're not on the Guildford train line or able to spend your life on the school run, it's pretty tricky.

There's a direct train from Ascot to Guildford.

Ah. Drunk then Grin

It is nearly all train as the sea of boys swamps the whole of London road.

All the sport is at bradstone brook so factor in travel there on a Saturday for matches etc.
I used to prefer away matches as the coach woukd leavecfrom the centre of guildford. For home matches you have to get them to bradstone brook.

We live in Guildford so DS goes on bus, but majority of his friends are on the train from literally everywhere. Not a problem as they all do it. Sport etc not a problem for us as DS not at all sporty! Surprising how quickly they become highly independent and grown up once in secondary...

I've been watching this thread - also have a ds who has an offer from RGS. Glad to hear that lots get the train. Ds currently walks to school - 100metres away! So bit nervous about the travelling!

Don't worry about the trip from Ascot - plenty of company on the train, and from GHS and Tormead too - they all get the same train and then lots change at aldershot - going to ascot is lucky - no change! Don't let it put you off in any way....

Thanks a lot to you all. Train seems the most sensible option and I am sure within a few weeks of joining RGS, my son will have a number of train friends, so an hour won't seem long for him.

Hi,

I used to see few RGS students taking a private coach from Lightwater. I am still investigating on this as my son is starting this sept too. There used to be private coache goes to RGS but not sure whether they have stopped them? I will check with school as well soon.

Hi Ishdeep,

I found out from an ex Guildford High School that D&P coach used to go to RGS from Lightwater. I did call them up to find out but unfortunately they have stopped now. My son is also starting this September maybe they both can go together.

Take care

prema
