any body have any experience of moving their dd to HGS in year? we hope t move to hitchin and want her to go to this school as she has had/is having horrible experience in her current school and we like the rep of hgs for pastoral care.

i know yr 7 admission is competitive but what about in year if it is your closest school? LEA are being guarded!

I don't know anything specific about this school but the rules are simple and apply everywhere in England. If there is a place available when you apply they have to give it to you. If there are no places available they will offer you a place at the nearest school with places available. If none of the nearby schools has a place available their Fair Access Protocol determines what happens. I don't know what Hertfordshire's protocol says but normally your daughter would be allocated a place at whichever nearby school was best placed to take an additional pupil. I'm afraid "nearby" can actually be quite a long way away in this situation.

Anything the LA tell you now about places at this school could change, especially since it seems your move isn't finalised yet. Another family could move into the area and take up any current vacancies at this school. I would hope they will be more forthcoming when you have definite plans.

yes, we know the general rules and fully understand that she can't get a place anywhere until we have an address. Problem is the other possibles are unsuitable for her.

Is your post missing a word- you don't say which year.
Same advice as above- there will be a waiting list for all years. People move within the town/county to try to get a place, so moving from another area or waiting until she is older will not side-step this.
