I've just been to my son's year 7 parent evening. In IT he is apparantly in the top 3% of the entire school and the teacher wants to put him forward for gifted and talented.
There was a suggestion that he could be able to sit his IT GCSE next year (he'd be 13, year 8).
One positive about this is that he'd have one less to do when he has the stress of the big ones at the age of 16 - unless of course they made him do an extra one instead. Anyone know how these things work?
