dd failed the 11 plus by a few points, been advised to put her up for the 12+ later on in the year, basically a reassessment exam by the grammar school. Wondered if anyone has done this? School won't support an appeal, don't know if i can appeal without the support of the school. She was ill and i have a doctors note.
Advice please? don't know what i should do.

hey tigtink6,
I only have second-hand info from what I've learnt through a friend going through a similar process. It appears that some schools have their own application review/appeals board but this is separate to the LEA, so perhaps, even if the school won't support an appeal directly, you are still entitled to appeal to the LEA. There is an appeals officer at your local LEA and my friend has found hers v helpful, they will be-able to tell you how to argue your appeal and also about the process for 12+ and 13+. Good luck!

if she is good enough she will pass the 12+ , so why bother with an appeal

If your DD was ill on the day of the test and you have medical evidence of this then you would stand a VERY good chance in an appeal esp if you have evidence of academic ability. CAT test scores from Y5, predicted SATs.You would need to do it soon though and do check, many 11+ schools do not let DCs take 12+ if they have had a go at 11+ and not passed so an appeal would be your only chance. Look on 11+ forum for advice for your own school/area. Good Luck.
