I am looking for a good all round science text book that covers the subject for year
7-9.
It is such a shame that the school do not supply a text book, and rely heavily on photocopy sheets, they are so messy and easy to loose.
I have bought a few books from Amazon which are helpful, but I am looking for a good substantial text book which follows each topic and stage of the science curriculum.
Any suggestions??
Some of the teachers resource books look good, but they are far too expensive, is there anywhere that sell text books second hand?

My DD is in year 7 and she is using the Letts Essentials science coursebook.Front cover says it covers years 7-9. Inside it tells you which topics she will cover each year for each science subject.

Back cover says its £13.99 and you can order on www.lettsandlonsdale.com

this is the series that they dish out at dd's school The link is to the biology one.

But could you search for the book the photocopied sheets come from? It's probably better if you buy the same book she's got at school

Yes a good idea, BUT, the book the teacher uses is the teachers resource book, priced at over £100.00.

In maths they have a really good text book, the only subject that supplies a book! this covers 2 years of maths and it can be bought for around £14.00 easily. You would have thought there would be something similar for science?

I have a Letts science book, I shall dig it out to see if it the same as the one mentioned.

It's not National Curriculum but Galore Park have a science book called "So You Really Want to Learn Science". Book 2 is designed to be used by selective prep schools (year 6-8) but covers pretty much the same stuff as KS3. It's very clear and you can get the answer book as well!
