I've decided to let my child move schools but I'm confused whether your allowed to move schools when your at the school you put as first choice. Also I slightly confused of the procedure on how to move schools midway through the term.

You are allowed to move school any time you want, you just have to find places at a school you prefer and apply for them. Then you tell the current school the DC will be leaving on X date.

Partway through the school year, you normally do it by approaching the other school directly, rather than through the LEA. But the LEA may be able to tell you what schools have spaces to help you make a start.

Erm what's DC and LEA? I haven't been in England too long.

LEA =Local Authority . DC = dear children . Speak to the admissions officer at your Local Authority (county or London borough ) education department as to where there might be in-year vacancies. How old are your children ?

I'm also in Scotland and if it were me I would phone the 'new' school directly and ask about spaces and procedure, then get it all secure before telling current school we were leaving.

As others have said you can apply for admission to any school at any time. However, to correct AMumInScotland, as you are in England you apply to the LA (local authority). If the school you want has a place they have to give it to you.
