Thank you jynier. I'm feeling fine. I'm sorry you are troubled sad

Mrs what do your children think of having their birthdays at Christmas? It's troubling me a bit I have to say.

Angelina Jolie? psh, you don't want to look like her themidwife

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 15-Apr-13 23:16:47

Right, now I've found you and plonked my ample peach down, I'm going to curl up for a snooze.

Someone poke me if I snore, please? grin

jynier Mon 15-Apr-13 23:48:24

Tx Kitty! - I know what I'm going to do about today's problem!

I spent 15 years away from my beloved Camberwick Green; 7 in Salty Town and 8 in another place. During that time, I met many shady characters; drug dealers, racists, homophobes, swindlers et al ... !

Received the election blurb today and, to my horror, I realised that one of those awful people is standing in the May 2nd elections (won't say which party!)

I have to speak out; will start tomorrow!

MrsShrek3 Mon 15-Apr-13 23:51:13

[gets kitty-poking stick ready]

ahh, he means me then <preens ogre hair>

My two like it hmm strange people that they are DD was due on Christmas eve shock but thankfully (!) she turned up 4 weeks early. She thinks it is fab and we have her b'day before putting christmas decs up and she gets the pick of all the new xmas stock in the shops. DS1 otoh has a b'day after christmas, and as he likes gagetry he is wise enough to ask for money and then hit the sales, the wise boy. I think kids are very accomodating tbh and a birthday is exciting whenever it is.
All of that said, if they are having a bike or an outdoorsy toy of any expensive larger proportion, they tend to get it in the summer, understanding that it's part of their birthday present and that there may not be a "big" present at actual birthday time, as they've had it in advance. If that's the case, they will usually get new helmet/bits for the bike at birthday time and often trips out and the like. The only bummer I have to say is dd's birthday. Everything reliably shoots up in price for December so the poor bugger has never had a party on her actual birthday. She's had plenty trips out, friends with us on treats, weekends away, but no actual party at b'day. She has had summer (unbirthday/end of school) parties, but that's the only downer imho. Which is more than made up for by the magical time of year, and she milks loves it.

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 00:32:24

My oldest nephew was born on Boxing Day; told my bro that it was a stupid day for a b'day! 4 years later, my DS was born on same day!

Nephew loves his b'day - always has a huge celebration and, usually, a fancy dress party accompanied by a barn dance! My son hates his despite the fact that we always used to have a special party in the summer for him so that he could enjoy outdoor toys (as MrsShrek3 says)

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 01:22:35

Am I the only one awake? Call yourselves insomniacs??? Where's cafe?

Salbertina Tue 16-Apr-13 01:40:17

Never found you all before! Am here- awoke 209am like clockwork - wind/stress/worries w dh keeping me awake again. You?

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 01:55:44

Hello, Sal, - You're not in the UK, are you?

Tell us about your worst worry, honey! I seem to be the only one on tonight's thread but the usual posters/ladies of wisdom plus one man will all be here later!

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 02:12:45

<Slightly sulking for being missed off appreciation list> pet lip emoticon.
Have woken from my codeine befuddlement, for a cuppa and more codein. Head still throbbing so my visit will probbly be short.
Thanks for new thread SD. Who the hell is Fiona?.

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 02:16:08

Ooo I got it. Always a bit slow.

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 02:20:48

Hello * jynie* and sal. I always find writing down all the brain garbage as If I am emptying my head is good to get me back to sleep.

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 02:21:58

Ooh. Hums to self. Perhaps they've gorn.

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 02:27:20

Hello! *Mini," Think that the exciting news of Kitty's baby has affected everyone on the thread!

Hope that you feel better soon! How can we help Sal?

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 02:29:34

Mini - I keep doing this (mixing-up asterisks with quotation marks! Sorry!)

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 02:35:27

Hi Jynie, don't apologise. No one is marking our workgrin unless the pedants sneak a look.
I might have to sink back into the pillows in a min. But have a hug for being on duty.

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 02:43:10

Thank you, Mini! Wish I could get to sleep! Have a really good night and hope that you feel better soon! x (I don't know how to do those emoticons but have a virtual bouquet of flowers and a glass of champagne on me!)

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 02:47:07

Longing for some sleep but Kitty's snoring is soooo loud!

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 03:06:25

... am wandering around our garden to see if I can spot any early Lyrid meteors! Think that they peak in about a week's time!

jynier Tue 16-Apr-13 04:37:37

Just can't sleep! It's so silly; saw my beloved GC today/yesterday. Had a really good time with them - they are delightful! DD2 and her H are the most wonderful people who walk on this earth! Am very, very tired but so scared to go to bed - can't stand the nightmares and vivid dreams!

themidwife Tue 16-Apr-13 07:01:40

Well done Jynier for keeping the thread going while we all snore! Kitty can't help it - she's pregnant & all bodily functions go into overdrive!! grin

Thanks A team grin

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 08:29:03

I am not doing very well at getting going this morning. I am sorry you are unable to settle jynier you have such an appreciation of the beauties of nature, would it help to bring them forward and think of them as you go to sleep, to set a pleasant vibe. I had an app that talked you into relaxation and played natural sounds, that helped, I thought.

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 08:33:10

Oooo. kitty that woke me up. Thanks.

SummerDad Tue 16-Apr-13 09:27:32

Hey Mini sorry mate for not including you on the list of appreciation, I don't seem to do anything properly these days thanks to the fuzziness you are such a darling part of the night cult, not possible to exclude you grin just woke up now and my throat seems to hurt have to get another dose of the pain killer I hope this only kills the pain hehehe

KittyAndTheFontanelles Tue 16-Apr-13 09:30:20

Are you on the ice cream too dad?

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 09:52:38

Thanks Dad. I would def. go for the ice cream jelly cure. Gargle with red sage?

SummerDad Tue 16-Apr-13 09:54:49

Kitty no ice cream at all, this apparently slows down the recovery as advised by my fabulous consultant. I know it is a bit against the tradition of tonsillectomy grin

SummerDad Tue 16-Apr-13 09:58:49

hehehe mini may be times have changed, my consultant advised me to keep eating normally just avoiding stuff which might sting i.e spices and citrus juices and to be honest, with a nice steady stream of Codeine I have been fine so far hehehe. It was a bit disappointing to know after the surgery that I need to avoid ice cream though grin

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 11:17:30

Ah well. You will have to stick to rules set by fab. consultant. Just visualise the ice cream. It's less fattening.

themidwife Tue 16-Apr-13 11:20:18

Oh bugger that Dad - the least you can hope for after a tonsillectomy is some bloody ice cream!! worth prolonged recovery in my book grin

SummerDad Tue 16-Apr-13 12:06:46

mini and midwife all I can visualise right now is that I am surrounded by some fab ladies and rest disappears in the haze ... lol

KittyAndTheFontanelles Tue 16-Apr-13 12:32:14

Prolonged recovery leading prolonged ice cream eating?

I'm sorry, I'm failing to see the problem grin

dad stop visualising ice creamy hills wink.

<norty dad>

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 18:32:29

Have attempted to send cafe a link. But am a bit rubbish.
Have slept all afternoon. Am a bit concerned re Boston. I am going to be there in June.

Minimammoth Tue 16-Apr-13 22:14:51

Pours codine tablets in dish sets onto table

4 pages in already!? grin have trained you well in insomnia, my pretties grin <swivels on big black chair, drumming fingers menacingly, on a bewildered, caffeinated fluffy cat >

cafecito Wed 17-Apr-13 00:08:59

what did I miss!? themidwife is Angelina and summerdad is Fiona and kitty is cooking a Christmas pudding!?

cafecito Wed 17-Apr-13 00:17:17

and I missed a party of opiates!

well, speaking of which, my squatters have turned next door into an enormous club and are charging loads of money on the door confused

I have been a bit down in the dumps as ex crazy P is really getting to me, to the point where I am very very much behind on work and tomorrow morning have a 7.30am starting shift... and no doctorly clothes that fit me any more, blabla

on the plus side, nicer weather now!

have lots of peripheral masters work to do over the summer, and have DS full time as not in childcare then at all and living with me <yikes but was plotting renting a little apartment in Paris, and going there with him instead to get away from London a bit (this may be a silly plot, but thought we could turn it into an annual jaunt and he could learn French)

I think these things build memories, and I only have really bad childhood memories, and I want to give him some happy ones. Lots of DC stuff near where I live though so should maybe stay put

ooooh kitttyyyy I am SO excited grin yes we do all have our roles now haha

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 00:35:38

cafe you haven't missed much I guess because I am still under heavy intoxication, sixth day it is and I guess a few more to go yet ...

All the stuff you just said I tried visualising doing and I already feel tired, God how can you even think of so much stuff

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 00:36:28

Watching "One Day" now ...

jynier Wed 17-Apr-13 00:51:25

Hi, everyone!

cafe - think that it is the most wonderful idea to take your DS to Paris in the summer!!! V. sorry to hear about all of the other probs ... !

Hope that everyone else is feeling good tonight!

Listened to the prog on R4 this evening about the Liverpool Care Pathway; had the most extraordinary reaction a few minutes in - swift headache and wanted to throw up! I am not a migraine sufferer so think that it was all to do with my beloved younger bro.

Had to go outside for air; fortunately, the night sky is beautiful tonight so felt better after a short while.

V. excited about kitty's baby! He/she will have so many unseen people taking an interest and sending love from this thread!!!!

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 01:27:56

it is very quiet tonight smile

jynier Wed 17-Apr-13 01:31:05

Hi, Dad! - Hope that you're feeling better! Best wishes!

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 01:34:12

thanks jynier glad to see that you are here actually I am good thanks just a bit fuzzed out smile how are you tonight

jynier Wed 17-Apr-13 02:15:54

Hi, again, Dad!

Should have replied to mini's kind comments! Will do it now!

Thanks, mini. I really do appreciate my surroundings; they're absolutely delightful, especially as Spring has finally arrived here in CG! Village is beautiful during the day and we have the extra advantage of no light pollution at night so we can see all the stars and constellations.

Have been trying to cope (unsuccessfully) with the losses and anniversaries. Have no idea how I would have managed if SD had not started this thread; it has been a tremendous help! I hate the grief threads (e.g. "Gone Too Soon"). People post pics of their loved ones in their coffins, FFS!

Am not completely self-obsessed with grief as there are so many things happening here; I have friends and am involved with village life (actually find this quite draining sometimes as friends are always asking me to do things!) and darling GCs. It is coming back to an empty house which makes the nights so difficult!

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 02:22:00

jynier, being self obsessed with grief as you describe is what happens to a lot of people so you are not the only one who goes through this. Living on your own could be such a draining experience when you are going through a lot. Keep sharing with us here hopefully we would be up and around when you need any of us.

dondon33 Wed 17-Apr-13 02:29:19

Evening all, anyone around? <waves>

I've got an interview in the morning and can't sodding sleep angry

So my interview will go either one of two ways - I'll stare vacantly, silently willing my brain to engage and answer the bloody questions.
My mouth will go into overdrive and I'll 'over' answer.

Also have my inconsiderate Ex ringing every 30 mins for the last 2 hours -so good job I wasn't sleeping (prick!!) angry angry

This is turning out to be a longggg night hmm

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 02:35:51

<Crawls in on knees>
Another home birth after a full day's work. Been at work from 8am to 2am. No lunch, no dinner, no funny.
Need codeine, ice cream, anything really! sad

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 02:37:07

welcome to the thread dondon33. I know exactly what you mean, I never managed to have a night's sleep before any of my interviews ever most of the times, adrenaline seems to do the trick so I am sure you will be fine grin

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 02:38:45

as far as long night is concerned, don't worry, you will have the company of the night owls scattered all over the county hehehe.

jynier Wed 17-Apr-13 02:42:04

Aaw, poor you midwife. You have to appreciate how much you are loved by the mums for whom you care! It's shocking that you work such long hours, though! Try and have a good night's sleep! Would a large G & T help you to unwind?

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 02:42:58

midwife which one you fancy more icecream or codeine I have loads of both wink poor you, you need something more than ice cream or codeine I guess.

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 02:50:37

Ugghhhh - have had ibuprofen for my backache & midwife's knee!

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 02:50:38

Ugghhhh - have had ibuprofen for my backache & midwife's knee!

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 02:51:29

Can't have large G&T or vat of wine am on call until 0830!!!

jynier Wed 17-Apr-13 03:09:16

dondon33 - Good luck for the interview!

themidwife - How are these working hours allowed? Seems wrong to me!

dondon33 Wed 17-Apr-13 03:27:20

Thanks for the welcome all.

midwife - you deserve something more than ice cream but I hope, at least, you have some of the luxury variety after those hours put in.

summer were you successful after the 'no sleep the night before' interviews? smile

I hate feeling like a zombie - but at least my Interview is early so it'll be over and done with before total zombie effect kicks in sometime in the afternoon.

I already know what it entails and as it's for a Call centre, I can only thank my lucky stars that it's NOT like the usual processes of behavioral observation, dicking around in role plays, scenario's and competency assessment.
It's a group tour, a listen in to the calls, a group speech by the interviewer then the 1 to 1 part - all within 90 mins, so I should survive smile

jynier Wed 17-Apr-13 05:15:50

I'm listening to the dawn chorus; it's wonderful!!!

<You're all asleep, aren't you?>

KittyAndTheFontanelles Wed 17-Apr-13 06:25:37

Morning all <stretches and yawns like bagpuss>

Littlekitty slept all night again - Hurrah grin She's nodded off again on the boob so I might get a bit longer too.

We are definitely due an awake all night again soon hmm

Don't want to make a list for fear of missing someone out, hope all of you have a good day. Personally I am avoiding any Thatcher related, erm well anything. That's me having a silent retreat then. grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Wed 17-Apr-13 09:24:49

Illegitimi non carborundum

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 10:30:24

Salbertina Wed 17-Apr-13 10:34:22

Need to read thread properly cant keep up with all the Latin/food-related jokes/anecdotes or is it my "bog-standard" comp education?!

Minimammoth Wed 17-Apr-13 10:38:21

You and me both Salbertina.

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 10:52:47

I don't understand the Latin either! Also - trying to understand the thread is fairly pointless seeing as its so surreal anyway! Just talk crap & you'll fit right in! grin

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 10:54:58

Too tired to name check everyone but good luck for hosp appts/interviews/ignoring THE funeral/sore bits today thanks

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 10:56:24

Salbertina Wed 17-Apr-13 11:04:23

Ok, mw.. Think I've got it now, poor sleep-deprived individuals chewing the fat?! And in the wee small hours gets a little...random?! grin

Any babies in the night on your shift?

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 11:11:44

Yes I did a home birth last night but it was called out straight after a full day's work hence the mammoth shift!

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 11:14:28

Morning all, I hope everyone is doing fine.
MrsShrek all the best for your husband's appointment smile
dondon33 my best wishes are with you for your interview. Due to lack of sleep, the feeling at the interviews is always a bit strange for me like I am walking in a dream, luckily almost always, I have been offered a place at such positions. I hope it works out well for you too smile
<waves to Salbertina smile>

Minimammoth Wed 17-Apr-13 11:20:02

Small explanation. Illigitimus non carborundum..... Don't let the bastards grind you down. Often used in our office.

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 11:24:55

Wow thanks mini - you are clevver!!

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 11:25:40

Morning Daddy - how are the places where the tonsils used to be? smile

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 11:57:05

midwife these are ok hurt a little bit but the spots look really ugly lol. If anyone interested there are post tonsillectomy videos on youtube, thank Goodness I did not watch them before the procedure might have run for the hills, as MNetters describe it grin Did you manage to get a bit of sleep?

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 12:02:43

Yes although norty Spider cat woke me up at 7am!!

Don't think I can bring myself to look at videos!!! Yikes!!

KittyAndTheFontanelles Wed 17-Apr-13 12:38:34

Running for the hills makes me think of Granville flinging himself at nurse Gladys Emanuelle

<trying not to think of themidwife as nurse Gladys Emanuelle>

Sal hills are the can'tsleepwontsleep euphemism for boobies wink

mini your Latin wasn't wrong, there are a few versions as it's a made up translation. <spoilsport>

It just makes me think of carbonara grin

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 12:53:25

Oooh carbonara (without the bacon)
#still hungry shock

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 12:54:33

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 12:58:13

Salbertina Wed 17-Apr-13 12:58:22

Aah, <blinks> only slightly confused now.. Lots of hills here, mountains even!

Granville and Nurse Gladys, oh takes me back!! Remember the cash-till? grin

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 12:59:48

If I was a man I think I'd be a hills supporter! They're ever so friendly & feminine aren't they?

<awaits Dad's perspective from his sick bed>

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 13:01:06

Loved the cash till, loved the stuttering, loved Granville, loved Arkwright, loved Gladys. smile

Salbertina Wed 17-Apr-13 13:07:27

And the woolly tank-top and wobbly bike grin

SummerDad Wed 17-Apr-13 13:16:12

talk of the hills makes me nervous grin

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 13:25:58

Right back of to workforce a bit!!

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 15:19:01

KittyAndTheFontanelles Wed 17-Apr-13 20:43:45

I bet it wakes littlekitty. She didn't sleep today so hopefully will go through tonight although that doesn't usually happen when she's had no sleep.

Minimammoth Wed 17-Apr-13 20:58:06

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 21:12:47

jynier Wed 17-Apr-13 22:41:20

<So sorry to interrupt! - wish that I was more computer savvy!>

Have just been watching footage of NZ House of Representatives voting for gay marriage; I know that probably some of you will disapprove - that is your right - but found it incredibly moving especially when the people in the gallery sang "Pokarekare Ana!" IMHO, one of the best love songs of all time!!! I sobbed with joy! All hail to Louisa Wall, a woman who stuck with her beliefs!

Do any of you know how to link this?

Will be back later; best wishes!

MrsShrek3 Wed 17-Apr-13 22:50:35

can link for you but where to find? YouTube?

themidwife Wed 17-Apr-13 22:51:31

This says it all for me Jynier by big marriage equality supporters Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. I even have a Same Love T Shirt!

jynier Wed 17-Apr-13 22:55:13 - this was under the headline!

MrsShrek3 Wed 17-Apr-13 22:58:17

3. MASSIVE well done stars!!!

4. kitty, I am extra impressed at your pudding, as you are still BFing! wow

5. mini, themidwife - why are your hills so windy? are they exposed?

6. themidwife - have you slept/eaten yet?

7. did you see any sootikins?

8. your use of # hungry, reminded me of some guy I know, from Shoreditch.. or dalston.. or somewhere achingly cooler than I... who is DJ... who litters every sentence (SPOKEN WORD) with 'hashtag' confused

9. Keep up the latin mini!!

cafecito Wed 17-Apr-13 23:44:05

today, I was in theatre all day, in scrubs.. with blood splattering all over me as consultant smashed someone's leg to pieces (it was brutal)

now have blisters from my theatre clogs

about to have a bath and attempt bed.. as the whole thing starts again first thing <scared>

jynier Thu 18-Apr-13 00:01:38

Grrr! Still can't share, despite the advice!!!

Hope that you're all ok; am going to take a couple of sleeping tablets (I never do this) but another friend has died. She was going to come to CG to see the bluebells and I told her to wait! She's amazingly fit, wasn't ill at all, had no bad habits ...! Very sad for her family.

cafecito Thu 18-Apr-13 00:31:03

oh jynier what a terrible shock - life is so very fragile and unpredictable. I was in intensive care earlier, and looked around and it struck me.. you would have been a wonderful friend to her I'm sure. You must be pretty numb - hope you get some sleep x

jynier Thu 18-Apr-13 00:40:52

Thank you, cafe! Judy was not ill at all; am somewhat bewildered!

You young people must make the most of your lives and enjoy every single day.

Gonna knock myself out now with a couple of Temazepam from 1999!

cafecito Thu 18-Apr-13 00:50:50

refrains from giving pharmacological advice on the internet...1999 oh jynier - you must also live every single day. but I know it's so difficult when you feel like you've been run over by the grief bus and are stranded and alone in the traffic island in the middle of the motorway not knowing what to do or think. I realise that anaology is useless but I have a scrambly brian today smile I hope you get some rest, remember we are here when you wake up. Judy didn't deserve to lose her life so unexpectedly, it's not fair at all- sad thinking of you thanks

jynier Thu 18-Apr-13 01:23:24

Feel that everything is imploding; can't stop crying! Sorry, folks! Need some serious hand-holding!

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 03:11:56

aww jynier sad [handholding]

anyone else here?

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 03:16:13

I've just read cafe's question about exposed windy hills and am trying not to wake dd with my giggling. she's just gone to sleep after mucho squealing about sore legs btw sad hmm

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 03:38:11

I'm off for a brew.brew
good to see that all my fellow insomniacs appear to be sleepinggrin

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 03:54:37

--but you are seriously boring--grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Thu 18-Apr-13 04:37:29

I'm here Mrs smile

Poor tiny shrek, what was up with her pins?confused

Jynier I'm sorry you've suffered another lossthanks

KittyAndTheFontanelles Thu 18-Apr-13 04:41:07

Exposed hillsgrin

Mrs damn and blast those errant cells.angry <shakes fist>
Is there a course of action?

Cafe Do you have to wear clogs in theatre? crikey!
<pictures proper, ornamental dutch affairs>

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 04:44:16

yay kitty grin how's your dd? sleeping? Mine has a few ishoos with her legs and the condition(s) cause her pain particularly during growth spurts. Trouble is that this one seems to have been going on since Christmas hmm She wears ortho boots but nothing seems to be helping atm. So the bugger's in my bed...again smile

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 04:46:12

I would also like to meet cafe's friend Scrambly Brian. I think I know him too wink

BlueyDragon Thu 18-Apr-13 04:46:57

Late to the party again, I must get a new watch. Mind you, there's DAYTIME conversation going on here, what happened to the insomniacs?

I am now stuck with the opening song from "Sound of Music" and the graffiti scene from "Life of Brian" in my head, having caught up on what you have all been chatting about. All I can hear is "The hills are alive..." and "People called Romanes they go the house?". Very confusing for my fuddled brain, but it is making me giggle.

So, what did I miss whilst RL/sleep got in the way:

Congratulations kitty!! My family is almost all December/January birthdays, including my Dad's on Christmas Eve. We try and make sure that birthdays are just that and don't get muddled with Christmas, although joint Christmas/birthday presents are not uncommon. It did take my Dad 40 years to admit that he'd rather not have Christmas cake for his birthday cake though - can't believe we didn't realise!

Sorry to hear that mini and SD are suffering although SD has his harem now so must be grinning through the pain . Get well soon flowers.

Hugs for jynier and MrsShrek too. Life really sucks sometimes but we're here for you.

And cafe needs a hug too. Paris sounds lovely, but a summer in London would be fab too, there's so much to do and lots of it is free. Most of the museums you pay for (well, London Transport and Buckingham Palace that I know of) let you come back as many times as you like within a year so that can offset the cost a bit. We went to Paris in August once and it was like a ghost town, lots of small shops and restaurants were shut although the museums and big shops were all open.

stars, that's fab news! When do you start ruling the world?

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 04:51:22

hehee bluey. How's it going?

BlueyDragon Thu 18-Apr-13 04:56:11

Torn between happiness at chemo being finished, frustration that I'm not instantly back to normal and fear of The Scan. I had a real downer today but went to yoga and that really helped. Macmillan are pulling out all the stops to help, too, and getting me some CBT and counselling which I hope will help me avoid worrying myself into an ineffective puddle.

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 04:57:36

another one to pollute your brain kitty - mini feeling midwife's windy hills wink grin

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 05:00:41

ohh hugs, blue.y. Hope macmillan crew sort stuff quickly. Give yourself time. lots of it. (we have decided that we probably had no idea what"normal" ever was, but have reached the conclusion we can't go back to our previous version of [ab]normal either grin )

BlueyDragon Thu 18-Apr-13 05:01:09

<brain bleach>

themidwife Thu 18-Apr-13 05:01:45

Hello everyone. Cruel timing when I need a good night's sleep but lady monthlies have commenced unexpectedly so I'm up sorting myself out. angry

Sorry you feel so much grief at the moment Jynier - hugs thanks

Hi Bluey - how are you? Yes we are becoming norty daytime posters lately aren't we?!!

I tell you what - the hills ARE exposed & that's why Mini & I are so chilly!!

Don't get me started on theatre clogs! EVIL! Also - considering they're meant to be worn in a sterile environment - blood spattered shared footwear isn't my idea of clean! I know the full time theatre nurses & surgeons probably have their own but everyone else shares filthy mingers! shock

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 05:01:49

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 05:03:33

ello mw, x posted.... grin was aimed at <brainbleach> not you and your bicyclewink

themidwife Thu 18-Apr-13 05:04:06

And no Cafe - there were no sootikins! grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Thu 18-Apr-13 05:04:34

Hi bluey we missed you. smile
Yes we are still on about hills blush I'm still waiting to hear about this tremendous nosh up.... when might you be free to be let loose in a restaurant?

<lock the doors, chain the chef to the oven and keep the food coming>

Oh Mrs your poor little lambkin daughter. Awful sad to think of a brave little one in pain. sad How do you manage to work in the morning after being awake all night? confused Ive just taken my hat off to you, did you see?

Littlekitty had woke. at 00.30 and again at 4.30, I think it's the wind whoomping down the chimney. She just sneezed in her sleep while latched on and bit down somehow confused sad

Yes cafe I'm very impressive cooking my breastfeeding pudding wink

Scrambly Brian grin Now that sounds like a Mighty Boosh character. grin

BlueyDragon Thu 18-Apr-13 05:09:32

DH wants the old "normal" back and I do too, in a way, but bowel cancer is believed to be stress related and I don't want to carry the stress levels any more. We'll see what that means when I go back to work; ATM because I'm at home and relatively functional DH is trying to push his career a bit; that's unlikely to be possible when I go back. Sometimes I think I could give up work, but a) I'm the bigger earner and b) I think I'd turn into some sort of tiger mum and start living through my children. I'd be an horrendous pushy parent!

Still thinking it all through, I guess. Have you made any massive life changes in the Shrek household?

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 05:09:51

kitty, ouch [eyewatering] sneezybitingboob
And how .... well I dunno. I just don't feel tired. confused I think I caught hyperactivenessitis of the kids I teach hmm

BlueyDragon Thu 18-Apr-13 05:13:03

kitty, we're off to Marcus Wareing's restaurant at The Berkley! Not until June though but I'm so excited!

Yeeeowch at hill biting though. There's no pain like it and DS only had two teeth when he did it to me, can't imagine what a mouthful of gnashers feels like!

KittyAndTheFontanelles Thu 18-Apr-13 05:14:46

x posted

Love that themidwife says ladies monthlies grin Is that a scientific term?

Bluey I'm sorry this is such an uncertain time for you. It possibly feels like a bit of an anticlimax. I hope the Macmillan team can provide the right support and answers.

<silly flippant kitty only thinking about food>

Thank you also for more December birthday insights. That's what I think too about the importance of seperate celebrations. My husband said something nice actually. I said I was worried their birthday wouldn't feel special and would be overshadowwd by Christmas and he said " Wouldn't feel special? With your family- not possiblegrin " We do tend to pull out all the stops smile

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 05:18:32

bluey, that's a bit of a tricky one tbh. dh has gone to work for new employer (TUPE'd over) who have taken over the company he works for, but his job is about to be redundant as the new company doesnt have his role. I am working below my qualifications atm whilst hoping to finish postgrad/masters, which had to be put on the back burner for the past year for obv reasons. so not many changes yet but a few to come. Things we want to do, save up a bit and go on hols, but still counting the cost of cancer which knackered our finances and he is currently uninsurable for travel. Plus ths fact that planning anything is scary now.

themidwife Thu 18-Apr-13 05:24:14

It's outrageous that having cancer can have such a devastating effect on finances! Is that because of going down to half pay after 6 months & that kind of thing?

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 05:44:01

hahaa if only. His company are such crap that they have no sick pay at all. angry ssp of 85 quid a week for 26 weeks then nil. Mortgage protection policy covered "his" half of the mortgage so we had to arrange interest only for 8 months... ohh the list is endless.

themidwife Thu 18-Apr-13 05:53:31

Oh crikey!!! High hospital parking charges for chemo?

themidwife Thu 18-Apr-13 06:16:06

Ladies' monthlies always makes me think of "Call The Midwife"!
The RCM asked us recently if One Born Every Minute represents midwifery accurately but lots of us said that we felt that "Call The Midwife" was much more accurate, esp for us community midwives!
I model myself on Sister Monica Joan grin

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 07:46:49

(get me. slept 6.15-6.45. Actually would be better if I hadn't)

Minimammoth Thu 18-Apr-13 08:26:28

My you lot have been busy. Waves to everyone. So sorry to hear about your friend Jynier, howl away, and look after yourself.
I have awoken this morning feeling much better, there wasa time when I would have tried to work through migraine but decided enough is enough, they give no medals etc.
so onwards and upwards today.
The hills are indeed exposed and boy was it a noisy night.
Mrs Shrek illness knocks the s* out of family life in many ways. Just as an aside my DH apparently had growing pains in his legs when he was 10 ish. The solution was to put legs in plaster. His mum said there was no way, so they just did onehmm he now has one leg longer than the other and a back problem. < there are also tales of him coming down stairs on a tea tray. He now loves skiing>

Minimammoth Thu 18-Apr-13 09:20:19

Oh dear I talked too much. Zzzzz emoticon. Have I sent everybody to sleep. No mini they have lives< talks to self>

jynier Thu 18-Apr-13 12:47:15

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 21:22:52

ooh mini, are you a fellow stationary addict? grin

dd has hypermobility, internal tibial torsion and flat feet, which is a painful combo. afaik none of the conditions are individually that serious, but together they're horrible and limit her mobility sad Her friends are lovely and combine running games for short spells (til she falls over) with other less demanding stuff.

Minimammoth Thu 18-Apr-13 21:36:25

Will that change as she grows mrs does she have physio?

Minimammoth Thu 18-Apr-13 22:21:07

For some strange reason I have swollen top half lip. Only half mind. hmm have I been chewing my Have I been eating strange foreign food
Have I fondled some weird substance and then touched my lip? Who the F knows?

MrsShrek3 Thu 18-Apr-13 22:29:47

antihistaminevino againwine (wonders how mini could have eaten something with half a lip confused - what has she been up to?)

dd doesn't have physio but sees orthotics regularly (ortho boots) been referred to paed orthopaedics consultant at children's hospital now hmm tonight she's settled tfft grin just hope no 3am screamers tonmight.

not doing big lists but just wanted to say grin grin stars, you've worked hard for it and deserve a bit of recognition.
and ((hug)) to jynier.
we haven't had minikitty round for a while, has she been behaving herself?wink

KittyAndTheFontanelles Thu 18-Apr-13 23:00:53

Night all grin. Hope not to see you later.

Mrs your poor little love sad What a combination. Do the orthoboots give her some relief? I hope she has a calm and peaceful night and you too. Littlekitty has indeed been behaving herself although billy wind woke her a few times last night but she was easily resettled. grin I'll buy her a bus ticket the moment she starts the sleepless nights again so expect her to knock on grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Thu 18-Apr-13 23:02:52

Mini what the crap?! Perhaps it was that slither of cake? grin

<hides under blankets>

Hope all have a restful night smile

cafecito Thu 18-Apr-13 23:29:54

jynier - how are you?

bluey - good to see you! may be an uneasy topic, but when is The Scan?

thanks for comments, think London is most sensible... wistfully would like to disappear for a while.. hmm...

mrsshrek, rubbish about finances. I wasn't given respite care with DD and had to leave city job, no help at all (though I went back, it involved 18 months no pay) I didn't get assistance as useless P was still floating about so worst of both. It was a huge financial disaster, had to move somewhere at own expense occ therapy- approved etc etc, I feel awful saying that now, but the consequences of illness are just so far reaching. I'm sorry about DH's work issues. How's your postgrad stuff going?

cafecito Thu 18-Apr-13 23:30:29

grin at Noel Field not cool enough to understand but think hes the one with hair no, but he may be a fan - he does a radio show, and ponces about in skinny jeans in the east end randomly saying hashtag and chain smoking.

I think mini is Angelina? wasn't that themidwife?

themidwife, I spend too much time on MN - have we synchronised grin

cafecito Thu 18-Apr-13 23:33:26

clogs are ghastly aren't they - these are not the pretty ones kitty, these are the grime covered, awful ones. The cool anaesthetists have orange crocs now though, but not me, I am lowly sharedclogwearer (may invest in crocs as they are washable) I had such sore feet today, I went and bought some HIDEOUS orthopaedic-style comfy black HOSPITAL SHOES on my detour shopping trip way home - and I wore them immediately, such was the agony of my feet!

cafecito Thu 18-Apr-13 23:36:36

I used to have rowdy lads shout 'angelina' at me in the street (12 years ago, mind, *sigh)

had a weird day, something VERY weird on a scan but would break confidentiality to post it here - bt no warning, just the most bizarre anatomical anomalies anyone in the department had ever seen! and some more gruesome ortho surgery <vom>

and did the silliest thing, I made myself late as couldn't find my train ticket this morning...
looked everywhere, everywhere for it.. then had to leave and had to buy a new one (ouch_) and then came home, and found it...

my fridge blush

jynier Fri 19-Apr-13 00:39:30

Hi, everyone! Was absolutely knocked sideways earlier on to receive the news of the death of another dear old friend; maybe I should not post on here when some of you are experiencing health difficulties. So very sorry if I am upsetting anyone!

Darling friend was so very special; her 3 children and my 3 were exactly the same ages and all went to school in CG. The difference was that my friend and her H were great campaigners for the future of mankind. She would often ring me to ask if I would pick up the children as she was going off to Greenham Common and thought that she would be arrested.

She and her H opened their house to everyone;- asylum seekers, homeless, drug addicts, alcoholics and newly released prisoners ... you get the gist!

They were completely involved in international human rights but also loved their life in CG!

Am not quite sure if I should publicise her name and that of her husband on here but am very proud that we were friends! Will miss her so much.

themidwife Fri 19-Apr-13 06:17:12

Oh Jynier sorry to hear that. I wonder if when we reach a certain age we will feel that everyone around us dies - I remember my grandma saying that. She lived to 95.

Cafe I am the anti-Angelina - not in any way even remotely like her. In fact the opposite. Blondish, curvey, blue eyes, normal sized lips, not with Brad. The lot really!! grin

BlueyDragon Fri 19-Apr-13 07:03:18

Oh jynier, you are getting a blasting at the moment. I'm so sorry to hear of all your sad news. And don't worry about sharing it with us, that's what we're here for that and odd conversations involving hills, goats and gnomes .

kitty, food is a much more important thing to talk about!

Oh MrsS, how rubbish about DH's work. We're so lucky, work have only just stopped paying me and have an insurance scheme to top up. Have you tried applying for Employment and Support Allowance? I didn't even know about it until yesterday - it's £70/80 ppw but better than a smack in the chops.

The Scan is Monday. I'm a bit nervous about the results and the procedure because they had difficulty getting the cannula in last time. I usually have very easy to access veins, but my pre-op prep and scan prep meant I hadn't eaten anything solid for 3 days nor drunk anything for 12 hours, so when they put me in the scanner room which is icy cold to keep the machines at the right temperature, my veins just gave up. Not the same this time, but I can still think of things I'd rather be doing sad.

On the plus side, DS slept all night last night (still asleep now!) and my DM is coming over this morning. And the weather is lovely. So today is good!

BlueyDragon Fri 19-Apr-13 07:04:16

But cafe, why wouldn't you put your train ticket in the fridge?

Minimammoth Fri 19-Apr-13 08:24:58

Morning. Grrr Kitty re cake. grin
Slept ok ok, lip is def Angelina proportions but bottom lip does not match sadly.
Jynier I don't know what to say, just hugs.
Cafegrin brain too full symptoms. I went through a big palaver with surgery about online stuff, ok they said we'll wipe record and start again. Got home and found all details on a paper in my ' office' blush

SummerDad Fri 19-Apr-13 10:23:53

Are you lot for real grin Seriously, if I were in film production, I could have made a fly-on-the-wall style film on all of you. This thread has all the ingredients of a wonderful film really lol.

Bluey, you are my hero really <is hero the right expression for a girl never mind>. My best wishes and prayers are with you dear.

Jynier sorry to hear about another loss of yours.

MrsShrek I hope your husband is better now. I can imagine to certain extent what it would be like to go through all this, you guys have a wonderful spirit and I wish you all the best smile

Minimammoth Fri 19-Apr-13 13:14:00

<Appears in wavy line> No Dad you are the only one who is real, we are just part of the nightmare dream.
< dissolves>

themidwife Fri 19-Apr-13 13:54:47

<SummerDad wakes up in the shower> with Pam gringringrin

themidwife Fri 19-Apr-13 13:56:13

That was meant to say with Pam

KittyAndTheFontanelles Fri 19-Apr-13 20:15:07

It did say with Pam themidwife confused grin

Ive got lost to catch up on.

Poor littlekitty had an unexpected nighttime poo last night, only the second ever in her littlekitty life and it was a very traumatic cleanup. The poor little babu has a sore botty today for the first time ever, probably as a consequence of lying in it for a while before she realised and told me. sad She's never had such a botty before.

On the plus side we had a sleepy bumble bee in our garden today so she was able to get up close to a buzzing fuzzy britches grin. Lovely. Also she learned about sycamore helicopters grin Endless, first experience fun. Golden. smile

themidwife Fri 19-Apr-13 21:20:38

Ahhh precious Kitty!! smile

themidwife Fri 19-Apr-13 21:29:24

PS Kitty - Metanium is the answer for a v sore botty

cafecito Fri 19-Apr-13 21:37:08

Yes yes metanium is amazing, the yellow one (the good yellow one)

With Pam grin

Just got in. Was vomited on by a cute baby today, then promptly had other things spurt all over me when inserting an abdo drain. Oh my poor white shirt.

I have weird lips I used to get called names *sniff

Speaking of which, DS bing bullied in nursery a little boy keeps hurting him and the staff are being useless, he comes back sobbing. Grr.

Off to see if there's anything except tickets in my fridge. Doubtful.

cafecito Fri 19-Apr-13 21:37:44

Loving wavy mini!!! haha

KittyAndTheFontanelles Fri 19-Apr-13 22:13:46

Oh no cafe that's terrible sad. Poor demitasse (see what I did there?) I'm terrified of the thought of this. So what options do you have if the staff are dealing with it? Have you spoken to the manager?

Thanks for the botty cream tip. Luckily it has eased over the day. It was such a shame because she always has such a perfect, peachy cream peach. I think because I've never used wipes on her and I use cloth nappies. I wash her botty with warm chamomile tea and tea tree oil grin Yummy botty grin

cafecito Fri 19-Apr-13 22:49:09

the staff say he's being emotional - but he quite clearly is being injured. they're obvs prejudiced by 'single parent family, mother oft absent, child shifted about' type of scenario

I've found a new nursery, near me, but can't start until September. I'll pull him out of where he is in July and have a few months just of DS time

kitty - you're too clever for me grin

and I see that metanium is not your style wink grin but wow- amazing kitty botty!!! you may also like nappy balm, by green baby, but they've gone bust though it's being brought out by another company

envy at mummy skills

stars mini coooeeee! GUESS WHAT you're going to be so excited

cafecito Fri 19-Apr-13 22:49:42

BlueyDragon Fri 19-Apr-13 23:28:52

We NEED a swoon emoticon on this site.

jynier Fri 19-Apr-13 23:57:19

Hi all! Just checking in!

In the old days, we all used to use zinc & castor oil on baby bottoms.

Ohhh Cafe grin

Oh yes a swoon for filing wont be doing much but luvs filing in my last admin i got giddy cos i was given the task to find missing files for a audit
Dream jobs were filing clerk or post room

Today cleared out the desk drawers boak at the used nail files and sweet wrappers but found loads of sellotape staples staplters datestamp inks rulers evelope openers penicls pens of all greed etc and a loads i mean loads of pens biros perm marker white board markers all pens were checked for suitabitly and ink levels

Oh poor little cafe bless him sad

Poor mini kittys botty

Jynier I was told egg whites and fresh air

jynier Sat 20-Apr-13 00:49:21

stars - Interesting! Will ask my DCs about their nether regions now!

Was reeling from the shock of 2 dear friends dying on 2 consecutive days; my darling neighbour, Lily (have mentioned her before upthread), has taken me under her wing and has been so very, very kind!

Have had individual messages from the husband and son of my great socialist reformer friend saying that she knew the risks of her cardiac op but she wanted us all to know (just in case) that she had had a wonderful and enjoyable life and she didn't want anyone to mourn. She also embraced modern technology so asked her family to make sure that we could join in a "virtual" funeral service which will take place at the end of next week.

Not bad for someone who has been wheelchair-bound for over 20 years yet still campaigned vigorously for the less fortunate worldwide! Am really proud of her!

Oh bless jynier thoughts are with you (())

jynier Sat 20-Apr-13 01:29:16

stars - Tx!

Years ago, I knew a nanny to the aristocracy and she swore by neat Milk of Magnesia on baby bots; wonder if it had the same ingredients as the other things that have been mentioned on here!

cafe - You must kick up a fuss at the nursery; don't let your DS be bullied. For the record, my DD2 and her H were congratulated for being a married couple when GS was born - staff said it was so unusual. Don't think, therefore, that it is a "single mother" issue!

Remmbers milk of Magnesia blue bottle white liquid got a smacked bum when i was given some when i was about 6 and promtly spat it out over dad's shirt think that was the first and last time he gave medcince

jynier Sat 20-Apr-13 02:55:20

Aaw stars!

Am off outside meteor hunting! Beautiful clear sky tonight in CG!

jynier Sat 20-Apr-13 03:19:50

Very unrewarding! Now have a massive crick in the neck!!!

Am I the only insomniac left on here now? Congrats to you all if you're all asleep! Watching President Obama's live speech to the nation about Boston.

jynier Sat 20-Apr-13 05:19:47

Wasn't lucky enough to see any of the Lyrids meteor shower but am listening to the most beautiful dawn chorus; blackbirds and thrushes are singing and whistling such wonderfully tuneful throaty songs!

Minimammoth Sat 20-Apr-13 06:33:24

Morning all probably sleeping. I had an emotional day yesterday got completely overwhelmed by work issues, ended up blubbing on my DH, pathetically. So in bed v. early
Feel for you and your DS cafe. Bullying is horrible at any age.
Jynier I saw a goldfinch in garden yesterday. So pretty.

themidwife Sat 20-Apr-13 07:28:47

Morning all - I'm still sleeping off the home births & the emotional ups & downs of the men in my life!!

Metanium is fab as a last resort if the skin really breaks down. Chamomile tea & tea tree is impressive Kitty!! I used bamboo washable nappies & little fleece squares & water to clean my babies' botties. When the nappies were on the line they looked like a row of dead rabbits much to visitors' horror! wink

Stationery week - paper porn eh?!!!

Mini I hope you feel better today about things & Jynier more at peace. The sun shone yesterday & it just makes such a difference as does the flowers coming out & animals reemerging.

Cafe - that's awful re nursery!! The sooner he's out of there the better!! angry

MrsShrek3 Sat 20-Apr-13 09:03:24

pmsl at dead rabbits on the line grin

hugs mini

oooh at stationary week.....that's an excuse if ever i saw one asif we need one eh bluey

no meteors, jynier? (were there supposed to be?) we watched the space station go over at 10.15 but saw nothing else.

and DO NOT put up with a bully, cafe. at nursery age ffs shock they start young don't they....angry remind the staff of duty of care, safeguarding and ask for their risk assessment and action plan to deal with it (i mean demand it but I am being polite) That should kick em up the bum. You know more than they do about this shit, grill 'em.

mornin everyone grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Sat 20-Apr-13 09:19:04

Morning all. smile

Another sleep through the night for littlekitty. grin Can any of you experienced mums shed any light on why she is able to do this but will equally wake every hour or be awake and playing all night?! confused

Yes themidwife, me too with the little fleecy squares. I love having a line full of nappies grin Mine are coloured and patterned.

jynier your friend sounded lovely. thanks

mini I'm so sorry about your tears. I hope your lovely husband gave you a lovely cuddle. I hope today is a better day for you. It's sunny in kittycity, how about where you are? grin

bluey I checked out your restaurant...swanky isn't the word shock grin The menu is written like a list of random parings confused

salmon, buttermilk, nutmeg

Is that a risotto? Poached? With pasta? Very intriguing hmm Can't wait for you to report back grin

<living vicariously>

How are you today?

Peers into a pile of stationery trying to find stars. Fails. grin
Hi Mrs grin
Stands behind Mrs again with arms folded, nodding.

Makes self a metal rope by linking papeclips and uses a cellotape roll as a lasesoo hooks onto doir handle and drags herself to top the off satationary mountain grin

Morning all glad you got some sleep kitty myself got a text from dd2 at 3am she had a fight with her bf and needed to talk 15 yr olds realtionship issues are way harder then when i was 15 and shes had a crap week ref her friends

poor thing just wanted to hold her and i couldnt sad

themidwife Sat 20-Apr-13 11:35:08

My fleecy squares have sheep on them - still use them as face cloths!

Minimammoth Sat 20-Apr-13 20:12:58

Thanks for hugs and thoughts people. Feeling better, and DH took some of the workload. My problem is I have about 5 different jobs, I get a bit cross eyed at times. Finished my Saturday work so chilling with wine now.
Can't wait for Stationery week. How shall we celebrate.

BlueyDragon Sat 20-Apr-13 21:59:36

I like stars ' paper clip rope. I am making one as we speak want one.

Did you know there's a pencil museum in the Lake District? We could have an insomniacs' outing grin ?

Minimammoth Sat 20-Apr-13 22:05:09

Hi Bluey. I have been to the pencil museum. Not enough paper IMO. Although I do drool a bit over coloured pencils in art shops. I want to celebrate with a nice notebook, and pen, and stick its. And a folder. And some notelets.< which of course always lay around and never get used but seem a good idea at the time.>

BlueyDragon Sat 20-Apr-13 22:11:31

Glad you're feeling better mini.

kitty, if you get an answer on the sleep thing, tell me. Last night I woke up to find DS had snuck into my bed; the only reason I woke up was because he'd decided to go back to his bed. It was very cute, if a bit worrying that I didn't wake up when he got in!

The menu does look a bit bats but DH has been wanting to eat at a Marcus Wareing restaurant for years. We had a booking at Petrus but DH had food poisoning that day. Bless him, he was hanging on to the toilet bowl whilst at the same time swearing he would be ok that evening. He wasn't, so this is compensation for 7 months of chemo and a missed dinner! I shall keep you all updated for vicarious dining purposes.

cafe, I'm goat sharpening again for your DS this time. I hope you can sort it out, that's horrid for you and your DS.

Anyone watching the London Marathon tomorrow? I'm going, got a couple of friends running including my best uni friend who now lives abroad, so I'll get to see her for the first time in ages. Plus lots of other mates, it's turned into quite a gathering! Now all I have to do is not fall over at the first sniff of a pint grin .

BlueyDragon Sat 20-Apr-13 22:14:40

Ohh, mini, matching notebook and accessories. Creates an illusion image of being in control. Like the Hitchhikers' Guide towel theory.

Are you a Cath Kidston sort of person, or more the Mont Blanc/Smythson area?

Minimammoth Sat 20-Apr-13 22:29:55

Oo both, depending on mood. I have a little Cath note book in my bag for phone messages, lists and stuff. I like quirky and classy. I think it is about attempting to have some kind of control-which I haven't- see yesterday's meltdown.

BlueyDragon Sat 20-Apr-13 22:41:58

I'd like an old fashioned blotter (and the antique desk to go with it. And the 19th century lady lifestyle to match, without having to be my husband's property and with the vote. Don't want much, me.).

Off to bed now, having removed DS from it. Cheeky boy was fast asleep in my bed and he didn't even wake up when I walked in, turned the lights on full, laughed out loud and then carted him back to bed.

Sleep well all.

MrsShrek3 Sat 20-Apr-13 22:55:36

grin bluey
I have also been to the pencil museum many many times - near parents house (and spent a fortune there on the way out thru the shop)shock
very pleased mini doing better
kitty... asIF anyone knows the trick of children and sleep. If we did we'd be millionaires because we would have written the book and put She Who Shall Not Be Named out of businessgrin wink

in the morning I'll be watching ds2 playing footy league match, might catch the latter part of the marathon on telly. He's currently giving me a running commentary on MOTD hmm how he knows all that useless information is beyond meconfused

oh I need wine (read [Port])blush

jynier Sat 20-Apr-13 23:37:06

Oh, well! I was one of those who was fooled by the troll today in "Relationships!" Why do people do this??? (It was OW has had H's baby. Probably been removed by now!)

MrsShrek3 Sat 20-Apr-13 23:48:44

It was very, umm, trolly. Sorry you got sucked in tho. my trollalarm went off at the title [cynical emoticon] The bumholes. why do they bother¿?confused

jynier Sat 20-Apr-13 23:57:20

There's another one on there now which could be a troll; on the other hand, could be a desperate woman genuinely seeking help! I'm not sure!

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 01:37:35

Thanks, all, for your kind thoughts; so desperately sorry for my friends' families but am too far away to help! Hope that all of you are ok.

It was a beautiful day here in CG; sort of enjoyed the sun and spent a while watching the birds. Mini, - envious of you and your goldfinch! They are so beautiful! We don't seem to have any sparrows here any more; bit odd!

Still hoping to see the meteor shower as the sky is very clear tonight.

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 01:39:20

hi jynier, looks like you are the only one alive awake smile now.

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 01:55:42

Hi, Dad!- Where have you been?

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 02:08:20

Been a bit busy with some family stuff thanks for asking me how are you.

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 02:20:06

Hope that you're now completely recovered from the op! Must have been horrible for you!

<Excuse me for a mo while I address my fellow insomniacs> - Oi, you lot! Dad's here; I can't entertain him all on my own!!! Heeelp!

Sorry about that, Dad! Back now! They're all asleep but, never fear, I do have secret talents! Interested?

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 02:21:52

jynier that's intriguing, shall we go in private wink

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 02:27:22

Hahaha!!! No need, Dad! I'm a little embarrassed now as I may have raised your hopes!

... you will be so amazed ...

Always need an audience!

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 02:30:25

won't say it didn't <sigh> grin. I am ok dear, tapered off the pain killers slowly, feel less disoriented now. Compared with what other people on here going through, my pain is nothing to be honest smile.

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 02:33:00

The only thing which bothers me in life some times is the loneliness. There is no feeling like being loved and being wanted unconditionally, I guess. Does unconditional love really exist, not so sure about anything any more.

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 02:48:07

Was just having another look at the sky; still haven't seen any of the Lyrids!

Brace yourself, Dad!

My secret talents are:-

1. I can yodel!
2. I play the spoons (although not up to my beloved younger brother's skill - he could play two sets at once on the same hand!)
3. I have almost perfected The Haka (in honour of my GD2 who I will be meeting for the first time in less than 4 weeks when my DD1 and her H return to the UK from NZ)!

Bet that you want to marry me now; <sigh> they all do!

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 02:50:33

you have another talent, keeping awake late at night smile

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 02:51:13

Sorry, Dad! X-posted! Didn't mean to be so flippant if you're feeling low!

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 02:55:47

it is alright jynier smile thanks for being there at this hour. It was a moment like this when I started the first thread.

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 02:56:45

Believe me, if I could go back with my X, I would be in bed by 8.00 every night! Used to love curling up with him; we sometimes used to stay in bed all day!

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 02:58:29

smile would be too lovely to be so madly in love with somone.

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 03:05:56

Okey-dokey! Who would be your perfect woman/partner?

SummerDad Sun 21-Apr-13 03:11:09

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 03:28:43

Does that mean that you have extremely high expectations and no-one could attain such or that you are so down in the dumps/have been extremely let-down and hurt that you are not willing to dip your toe in the water again? Join the club!

jynier Sun 21-Apr-13 04:04:14

Oh. I'm here on my own. Never mind! Have been looking at the absolutely beautiful night sky; have not been lucky enough yet to see any of the meteors. There is a thick frost which makes everything in CG look lovely!

themidwife Sun 21-Apr-13 07:12:33

Morning all - I'm a pathetic excuse for a member if this thread at the moment. I'm in total zombie mode - yawning at 9pm & going up to bed. Asleep by 10 & dead to the world until DD wakes at 7am! blush

"I wish I was kitty" reads as if you wish you were me.

"I wish I was, kitty" reads that you wish you were in Barce

<you can take the teacher out of the classroom etcgrin>

Lesson over, enjoy your cake. grin

Why couldn't you have a fry up on your own, by the way? I would have. smile

AnAirOfHope Sun 21-Apr-13 09:55:29

No im not zombie i just feel like one.

themidwife Sun 21-Apr-13 10:01:42

Ugghhhh back is killing me!!

Had a lovely day at our local independent hilly record shop for Record Store Day buying vinyl Bowie, Kate Bush & Sigur Ros. Feelings of massive regret at selling all my original vinyl in the early noughties angry

Then clearing out & painting & cleaning DS1's room who is definitely dropping out of Uni & have moved him into the office in the garage so he doesn't get too cosy!! Moving DD1 into DS1's room & DD2 into DD1's room because her room is literally 5"x6"!!

Then I can move toys upstairs & enjoy my living room! Knackered!!

Really needed that chocolate cake. Thanks Mrs! Or was it mini? grin

themidwife Sun 21-Apr-13 10:02:19

No it was Stars ha ha!! Thanks Stars!! grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Sun 21-Apr-13 10:34:22

My husband would approve of your Saturday, themidwife grin

He was doing the same thing in another town. He's a collector. You should see our house shock

KittyAndTheFontanelles Sun 21-Apr-13 10:44:20

You are still welcome AnAirOfHope. Hope you get some rest today.

themidwife Sun 21-Apr-13 12:11:24

Yes strangely my DH (who is living elsewhere) & I both do simultaneous things like buy vinyl, book the same concert tickets, buy the same food etc. Funny, he said he didn't like living "my way" when we lived together but now lives almost exactly the same way in his house!! Men!!!!!

MrsShrek3 Sun 21-Apr-13 12:27:28

kitty I'd have to kill him if he scored.

he's the goalie grin grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Sun 21-Apr-13 13:45:21

Oh well in that case I hope he saves them all, Mrs grin

stars, I'm sorry, I'm worried my post sounded very school ma'm.blush I didn't mean to give you a telling off, was just explaining why I read it the way I did. You inspired me to send my husband out for bacon. Yum grin

Littlekitty is just dropping off, Mrkitty is off to Sainsburys for me and I'm going to iron and watch a Poirot and finish the bacon

themidwife, I meant my husband was doing the same as you but not in hillyville. Funny about your husband's antics though. Sweet. grin

themidwife Sun 21-Apr-13 13:59:12

I know MrKitty wasn't in my hippyhilly record store! grin

dondon33 Sun 21-Apr-13 15:39:11

The interview went very well - it went the second way of the 2 options I'd described due to my lack of sleep.... My mouth went into complete overdrive but luckily for me my interviewer was very talkative gobshite too smile
It was actually the best one I've ever attended and I GOT THE JOB smile

Minimammoth Sun 21-Apr-13 20:31:25

I have crashed out. As I was awake for hours last night. Dared not come on here as I was reeeely trying to go to sleep. You know, eyes shut think of somthing boring, bit uncomfy, just shuffle and turn over, too hot, poke leg out of bed, wave arms. Turn over again. Continue in that vein for ooo 4 hrs. Get to sleep, birds start up. Time to get up!

KittyAndTheFontanelles Sun 21-Apr-13 20:59:23

Hope you have a better night mini I know what you mean about lying there tossing and turning but not wanting to give into it and get up and do something.

dondon33 Sun 21-Apr-13 21:34:55

Thanks all for good wishes xx

MrsShrek3 Sun 21-Apr-13 23:46:16

BlueyDragon Mon 22-Apr-13 00:14:51

Evening, MrsS and SD. Not sure how long I'll be here - brain fizz on the one hand, a lovely day watching marathon runners plus 2 glasses of wine on the other.

Congratulations dondon! When do you start?

I hope mini is asleep.

BearsInMotion Mon 22-Apr-13 00:20:05

Where do I sign in?

MrsShrek3 Mon 22-Apr-13 00:25:43

good to see you bluey, rubbish at you having brain fizz but it sounds like you've had a brilliant day! lots of rest needed now wink
hello bears smile

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 00:29:23

Oi! Dad - Was giving it my all last night to try and boost your mood! Sat here half the night playing the spoons and yodelling in the hope that the energy would channel itself toward you!

Believe that and you will believe anything!!! Lol!

Forgot to mention that I had Irish dancing lessons, too! I am quite a catch!

Anyway, love all the posts upthread; did anyone log in to the chastity belt thread? So funny - Sootikins was mentioned again!!!

Still hoping to see some meteors tonight; sky looks pretty clear!

BearsInMotion Mon 22-Apr-13 00:34:06

Hello mrsshrek! Can't decide whether being on here is a good idea or whether I'd be better off lying resting and trying not to think... Can hear an owl outside at the mo, which is nice smile

WouldBeHarrietVane Mon 22-Apr-13 00:42:46

Have been on here with you all before - nc though as kept posting potentially outing things on another thread blush

Hi all - waves!

Can't sleep tonight as stressing about DH, who is ill (chronic and thank goodness only uncomfortable and not serious) and out of work sad Childcare (ours has fallen through so god knows what we will do if DH gets a job at last!

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 00:46:55

Hi all smile

Welcome bears (lovely name; made me think of Northern Exposure for some reason) My advice is focus on the owl for a bit, it may help you to drift off. If not.... join us grin

bluey your day sounds lovely. Was is great seeing all your ind friends? smile Now off to bed with you, you wee scamp grin

Mrs how did the boy get on?

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 00:50:28

Hi and welcome back Harriet.

I'm sorry you've so much on your plate at the moment. sad As I'm sure you know, there is usually jynier someone about to listen. smile

BearsInMotion Mon 22-Apr-13 00:52:37

Thanks Kitty, but even the owl seems to have gone to sleep now!

Sorry to hear about your DH Harriet, is he asleep at least?

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 00:54:11

Bears - Sorry if I have put you off; it may be best if you lie quietly and listen to the owl! If you are in the UK, you may be able to see the Lyrids meteor shower! Beautiful night sky here!

I'm off to bed soon (disgraceful for a so-called insomniac!) as I am looking after my beloved GD1 and GS after school! They are absolutely delightful and soooo funny; they make my heart melt!

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 00:57:29

By the way Harriet why does your fictional husband keep droppin' his gees in the radio adaptations? It drives me to distraction. Have a word, there's a love smile

Now your real husband. Can they do anything? Is this a potentially transient thing or more permanent than that?

I'm sorry sad

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 00:58:37

Sorry, Bears, - X-posted!

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 00:58:54

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 01:13:34

Yup, no dice. Looked under all the yoghurts and all the way to the bottom of a packet of wine gums (had to empty the packet of coursegrin )

Oh bears we aren't scary. I'm sure you won't give us ant reason to sharpen our goats grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 01:15:25

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 01:29:16

Grrr! Am not tired; may have to resort to the old Temazepam from 1999 again!

Was involved in two campaigns (Sunday) to (1) make sure that everyone with an ill relative realises the importance of obtaining an Enduring Power of Attorney to avoid said relative being placed on the LCP against their wishes (promise you, folks, being next-of-kin doesn't matter!) and (2) something to do with the 2nd May elections.

No cafe recently; hope that you're ok!

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 01:33:35

Sorry, everyone! Your posts are taking a little while to show; broadband is not good in CG!

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 01:46:12

Littlekitty is waking every hour, now every half hour. There is something going on with Sunday nights. Seriously, this is the fifth Sunday in a row where she has either done this or been wide awake and wanting to play sad

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 02:17:38

kitty My DD2 was the same; she would constantly wake up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed through the night wanting to play. It was exhausting, especially as had two little toddlers who could not be disturbed!

BearsInMotion Mon 22-Apr-13 02:20:59

Just started to doze off and now DD is awake again sad she's 15 months, I thought we'd be past waking every 2 hours by now.

How old is little kitty?

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 02:23:32

Hi jynier, yes very exhausting. Especially at this stage in my development wink Odd this Sunday night link thought. She's been so good otherwise. There must be a reason.

Give my best to CG and salty town grin

KittyAndTheFontanelles Mon 22-Apr-13 02:25:10

17 months grin

Hi babybear smile Go to sleep little one and let your mummy rest bear

BearsInMotion Mon 22-Apr-13 02:34:07

Oh well, at least I'm not alone!

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 02:37:20

Kitty - will PM you.

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 02:58:30

Done, Kitty!

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 03:33:20

I have just posted the most stupid and fatuous remark on the Chastity Belt thread which has made me realise (after a frantic search of my bookshelves) that I no longer have the Heath Robinson cartoon book which was given to me years ago by my little bro! Hopefully, it is in the possession of one of my DCs. Will ask them all tomorrow! The book used to make my darling bro crack up with glee!!!

jynier Mon 22-Apr-13 04:42:02

Oh, well! "... The best laid plans of mice and men ... "

Didn't get to bed BUT am listening to the beautiful dawn chorus which started a few minutes ago!

AND have just seen new pic of my NZ granddaughter; so excited as will be meeting her for the first time on 18th May!

BearsInMotion Mon 22-Apr-13 06:08:28

Hellos to Bears and Harriet.
Waves to stars, cake for breakfast, I have been to Barcalone and also remember large wedges of choc cake being in the breakfast spread at hotel. < love Barca, fab architecture, fab art, fab weather, fab food>
