Relationships

relationship with ex. business like versus amicable

dp has a very formal business like relationship with ex. they only communicate via text. arranging access for their dd ends up in 50+ msg's over space of a day with each of them getting shirty. a bit stressful for all. but has to be done due to shift pattern of jobs mean no 2 wkds are the same free times for the parents.

myself and ex are very amicable.

he often will call most days ask how dc are and what i am up. he stays just 5 mins down the road so if i am going to be running errands he will often ask for dc to be dropped at his so i can go to supermarket in peace (occassionaly picking up some groceries for him too), or queue in bank with 2 toddlers hanging off me.

dp is a little uncomfortable with my contact with ex.

he thinks its fantastic that we simply pick up phone and in one very quick call arrange access ( we too have wkds that need to change regular).

but thinks i go too far with amicable.

i will admit to also perhaps fixing things about his house if it needs done in passing, and he's been known to do things in return like this week he wanted to send round his gardener to sort out mine as i'm accident prone and tend to avoid power tools so at present i have a jungle for a back garden.

is dp right to feel uncomfortable? or are we simple to grown adults who manage to get along?

you sound more like friends than most people with Ex's but I think that is a good thing. Sounds like your DP is a little unsure of his standing to me.

wouldn't go as far as saying we were friends.

i no longer long to poke him in eyes with anything sharp and pointy when he speaks

dp also thinks its odd for me to be going on daytrips with dc and ex and his new partner occassionally too.

we all get along.

i dont see why not.

and.. em.. his new partner sometimes does all dc ironing if i drop it off when dc go for access.

she likes ironing.

i dont.

ex likes dc to be wrinkle free. i had him informed if he wanted them in perfectly ironed clothes 24/7 he would need to find someone who did it for me.

and he did.

i may possibly be able to see why this would be seen as odd.

Hmm, given his partner is involved, it's hardly like you're playing happy families with your ex. And it's got be good for your kids, showing them that you two can still get along.

I'm actually quite jealous of you, I wish DP and his ex could get to where you and your ex are. It sounds like a fantastic arrangement for your DC and presumably makes life much much easier for you and your ex.
