come on...what do you have planned for your OH for this weekend?

even if its just a home made card or an all out suprise extravaganza.

or.. what was the best suprise/gift you received in the past from someone?

surely not everyone on MN dislikes it and feels its a con from the card making industry.

please... if you dont like valentines, and dont celebrate, dont have a go at it on this thread.

i'm looking for a nice thread to balance out all the horrible ones about abusive/cheating OH's

Not doing anything special really. I'm 24 weeks pregnant and suffering with severe SPD so can't go out and do much. I'm gonna cook DH a steak and as I've got serious cravings for trifle DH is going to make me a valentines trifle!!!

It's also our anniversary-we had our first date on valentines day.

We're going to the London dungeons and then on to an all you can eat barbecue place.

Not really romance itself but I'm looking forward to it.

We're going for a nice meal tomorrow and DH has bought me a lovely charm bracelet and a huge bunch of multi coloured tulips.
I've bought him a nice bottle of whisky and the darkest chocolates I can find.

I had bought myself some very slutty nice undies but I now have the period from hell, so I doubt they will be put to good use this weekend. They'll have to go in my case for when we go away in March .

We don't have much money at the moment, so we're not buying anything, but I am going to make a card and cook him a nice meal for Sunday lunchtime. Then we're going to our dance class in the evening, so that'll be a bit romantic . . . as long as he doesn't stand on my feet too much of course . . .

We're definitely doing the budget Valentine's Day (isn't that awful: it's VD for short!) . So instead of going out it's a meal in, with a bottle of wine, and a movie.

Had a lovely one last year: unbeknownst to me, DH, with the help of a wonderful friend, had arranged a dinner out at a great little restaurant about an hour's drive from us; babysitter; and a night away.

mampam - for some reason it really made me smile he's making a trifle for you craving .... you should have said you had a craving for steak and trifle then you'd only need cook the starter

mal - damn periods.... but.. march isn't far away

word - what kind of dance? something sultry like salsa??..

whatnolunch...... .. a night away so you dont need to get up and have a long lie.. yet only 1 hr drive so not a mammoth journey.. thats a good suprise.

pineapple - london dungeons.. scaring yourself silly.. thats my idea of VD heaven.. not to mention the all you can eat BBQ [lips lick emoticon]

I am determined to learn to salsa with DH in Cuba - 5 weeks to go, yay!
He'll pick it up no problem but I have 2 left feet.

Don'ttouch, yes, 6 days bloody early! I'd made an appt to have my coil out next week as the lady doc is only there on Tuesdays, I doubt I'll be able to go now.

It's not salsa, it's ballroom and latin . . . he started learning last year as I have been dancing since I was a kid and I love it. He says that he wants to be able to waltz me round the room himself rather than sit there like a lemon and watch other men dance with me!

Actually I think it'll be a great thing to do for an hour and a half on Valentine's Day. He always says how great it is that all the couples who go there are people who like each other and want to spend time together!

It does depend on the dance though. He loves the waltz and the foxtrot, but the quickstep seems to send him a bit mental - I swear we'll go crashing through the glass doors at the end of the room one day, the speed he goes!

Mal - bet you can't wait for Cuba! Hope you enjoy the salsa with your DH. I bet you'll soon pick it up - just get your hips wiggling!

I'll let him sleep late tomorrow

I've made a creamy desert (easy-peasy) with burboun biscuits, and we'll just open a bottle of wine and lie like dead in front of telly talk for hours with sparkle in our eyes.

mal -cuba sounds fantastic.

word - ballroom, that is very nice he wants to be the one whizzing you round and joining in with your interests. i see his point that people want to be there to spend time with each other and not because they have to iykwim

sayhit - creamy desert ???? excuse my ignorance? what is this?

Oh, very easy:
You take rich tea biscuits and whiz them in the food processor (or put them in a nylon bag and give them a good bash with a rolling pin! they don't to be powder-like, just "crumbled") mix that up with soft butter, and pad the bottom of a pan/serving dish, tightly pressing the crumbs together.

whip up double cream with a little sugar, and add some plain fromage frais (I got it at waitrose, gives it a bit of stability and also a "deeper" taste- but truly not a must). spread on top of biscuits.

take some bourbon biscuits (or any chocolaty ones..) and mash them up really fine (like a powder- here it's truly better to have a food processor or strong arms) and crumble on top of cream.

it is TO DIE FOR after stored for 1hr. in fridge.

We call it desert because of the sandy-likeness of the crushed biscuits

Well I just got engaged on Sunday past so I'm not expecting anything on Sunday! DF and I are going out for a meal with his brother and sister and their partners as an engagement celebration/Valentines dinner on Saturday night but we usually don't bother with Valentines at all. I'm still on a post proposal high so it feels like all my Valentines have come at once!

Got engaged on Valentine's Day. DH was trying to surprise me and knew I would not expect him to do it on such an obvious icky day!

Report
OtterInaSkoda · 12/02/2010 18:52

I would like to whisk him away to a hotel for the night where we'd have a luverly dinner, get thoroughly trollied and guzzle Champagne in the giant roll top bath between sessions of exuberant shagging.

But we don't have a sitter soooo, ummmm, any ideas? I could (and will) cook something fabulous but ds will be around - what can I do once ds has gone to bed (besides the obvious)?

We're in saving mode at the moment as our first little 'un is due in the summer...so I can't drink anyway etc.

We're staying in, apparently my lovely husband is cooking me a surprise meal bless him. I bought him a nice bottle of red as he has been cutting down since Christmas so he should like that.

Nowt exciting here!

Seeing as it's Friday.....
I've just read an article on the sexiest hotels in Europe - imagine my utter shock when I went on the actual hotel website and looked at the rooms!
DH's face was a picture when I told him I'd booked room 33!!!!
Now then, which of the optional "extras" shall I rent ?

Bloody Hell at Room 33!

It looks like a lovely hotel, although the rubber floor in Rooom 33 is a little offputting

Are you really going there?
