real life romance - proove me wrong!

I've recently overdosed on film/TV/literary romance- through no fault of my own - I don't seek it out - it's all-pervading! but my own experience doesn't seem to mirror Doug Ross sending Carol Hatahaway a huge box of animal crackers, or Bridget Jones running through the snow in her undies...

does this sort of thing happen in your life ladies? am i just devoid of romance or does it actually exist and I'm missing out - or is it all a huge big fat lie? I'd appreciate your true-life-hands-on-heart stories..

...help me believe!

I'm not sure if it's standard tv/film romance, but....

I've had a really rough pregnancy, have SPD and finding it hard to do basic things. DH found me crying in the shower the other day because the pain was too much to put my leg up on the side of the bath to shave. He grabbed the razor, got on his knees on the side of the bath, and shaved my legs for me!

He also makes me laugh every day. Today he was composing another one of his ridiculous blues songs on his guitar, this time about me going for the ultrasound tomorrow--wish I could remember the words, but I was in tears from laughing.

Little stuff like that just makes me love him more and more.

My DH is very rarely romantic but a few years ago he was away with his band down South and was due to be away for about a week I think. One night he just appeared at the window (and gave me the fright of my life)- it was such a surprise but he missed me so much that he drove all the way back home just to spend the night with me and then drove all the way back again in the morning!!! (about a 400 mile round trip).

Awwwwwww....

Dp drove all the way from Kent to London at 1am to collect me from the MN xmas do because he didn't want me getting teh train home. he took me all the way home to Gatwick and then drove all the way back home because it was still early days and i didnt want him staying over while the kids were here.

he lost his job last friday and his company car with it. it meant he couldn't get down to see me. he didn't say anything to me but borrowed his mums car and drove down. all the while have a conversation by text about how we wouldnt get to see each other as much and hw i missed him.
next thing i get one saying "it wont be that bad. open the door" and there he was!

Someone I met while staying with a friend broke into the friend's house to see me (well not broke in, climbed in through an open window). I wasn't all that thrilled and he later turned out to be a complete knob anyway.

I have also had various songs and poems written for/about me. Unfortunately the majority have been so awful that it has put me off the otherwise-lovely blokes who wrote them...

Aw, I love stories like this. I'm not keen on the film type ones but the real life ones are great

My DH is a bit of a sweetie. When we were first seeing each other, I was having a hard time with some family stuff and twice he appeared on my doorstep within 3 hours of speaking to me after getting standby flights. He used to draw silly cartoon pictures of us and post them and send flowers to my work Obviously now we live together so it's more a case of bringing me in an occasional surprise gardening magazine or buying nice cakes and hiding them in the kitchen till he gets a cup of tea made

Love him to bits I do

My DP romances me to death! Just three weeks after we met he painted me and gave it to me as a Christmas present...it's on my profile, and it's about to appear on the front cover of a magazine in the States [proud emoticon]
