I am. ....
Mum is horribly cotrolling ( always has been) and has lots of tantrums

At least my pet tortoise is still around and dad has made lots of progress with my help.

but I am counting the hours

Have bought a first class train ticket to reclaim my life!

Are you still very much in a fear, obligation and guilt states with regards to your parents.

Any opportunity of taking the tortoise with you?.

BTW I would not let your dad off the hook here; he is really just as bad as your mother is. He has failed here to protect you from her and has acted out of self preservation and want of a quiet life.

Too right about dad.
I felt anger for many years. Still do really and rightly so frankly!
but family is family and the irony is that they would both lay down their lives for me or the kids
My mum is great when there is a genuine crisis but manufactures crises for attention if there is no crisis
She obviously has major mental health issues....
