I would like to pay tribute to my 78 year old aunt

She came round today, gave me the money for DC's christmas presents, left 3 bottles of wine in my fridge (think she thinks I need them, but leave that aside) gave me £250 for christmas and cleaned the whole of my downstairs to a spotless level within about 35 minutes. (Literally.)

As she bustled around I sat on the sofa feeling too exhausted to put the kids to bed and too drunk to care that they were up and wondered how the f*k she manages that at age 78 when I don't have the energy to load the dishwasher at 40.

Does anyone else feel jealous of the competence and energy levels of geriatrics?

unfortunatly my oldies are knackered, 40 cigs a day for 50 years will do that to you

Bless her! how fab is that, my nan's 92 and whilst not quite on the same par, she amazes me by still being able to scoop up dd2 off the floor (9mths old and 21lbs) like a feather, whilst my mum struggles to lift her!!

my mum is like this and she is 86. My ambition is to be like her. I have managed the wine bit but am struggling with the cleaning.

My mum was like that, too. I remember her visiting me and my oldest ds when he was 3 years old - dh was away for the weekend and I was very tired and had had a stressful year.

She did that efficient bustling about and cleaning thing. I loved it, loved the attention and being looked after like that. The house took on a whole new feel for the time she was there. I treasured that weekend.

I thought you were going to say she was pregnant

Oh, what lovely oldies

I would hope to be like that too (not holding my breath though - my mum died at 50 and my dad was domestically useless although he went on to over 80!)

my mum is 76. she runs a lunch club (as in does the cooking, waiting, and washing up) for the old people in the village. she does it with a friend - bit younger but just recovering from breast cancer.

My dad had a cousin who was still involved in doing meals on wheels for others before she died in her 90s!
