Relationships

have you ever experienced proper "sparks" when you've met someone?

I mean proper, crackling, sparky electric feeling - that you and the other person have agreed you definitely both felt physically?

A few years ago, I sat next to a male friend who I'd only ever thought of as a friend, during a meal out. We were a big group squashed around a table and our legs ended up pressed against one another and I am not kidding but it was like something had been switched on between us - well that's how it felt to me. Like a proper charge, just from this bit of contact. It went on all evening, fizzing and crackling away.

I was in a v happy relationship at the time so didn't want to initiate any conversation about it with friend. I am single now (as is he), and I would dearly like to ask him if I had imagined it or if he had felt it too, but really I would feel like a loon bringing this up, unless it's something that other people have experienced too, on both sides so at least I have an idea of whether this does happen to two people at the same time or if it was just all in my head!

I did once when I was about 19 in a crowded pub. Someone walked passed me and we looked at each other and something weird happened, like sparks etc. I never saw him again.
I was bladdered. Grin

Oooo - go for it! If you're both available, why not?

Chances are that if he didn't like your leg being close, then he'd have moved it away.

I've not had sparks as such but I have felt utterly drawn to someone, in fact, I'm married to him. Smile

yep.

felt it with DH on our first date. both of us felt it, it was electric, like nothing else either of us had felt before, and the only way i can describe it is sparks Blush

and 3 1/2 years, a marriage and a baby on they are still there :)

Oh yes I did once on a blind date, but i don't know if it went two ways because he didn't keep in touch. Was lovely though.

Yes. About 3 months ago at a Christmas party. We met on the dancefloor and pretty much ignored our respective groups of mates the rest of the night. Still in the sickly-happy-all-over-each-other phase Blush and still get that sparks feeling from the siliest things (even texts etc)!

I knew a woman once who claimed that she and her new partner actually levitated when they had sex for the first time. She was completely serious and a nut.

Yes, I have. A couple of times. And it's led to successful relationships, one of which I am in now.

Go for it -- you've got nothing to lose :)

What fabric was your trousers?

Possibly just static electricity from non-natural fibers rubbing together. Especially if you had shaved your legs the previous day.

Was nylon involved?

Full on bonfire party between me and my bf, it didn't take long for us both to confess!

lol @ BOF's levitating lovers in the atmosphere. Too much Blondie I suspect

ooh interesting replies thank you.

he is only very recently single so I don't want to launch in yet. but will see if those sparks happen again! we have met up loads over the years as part of a group, and while I always have been a bit attracted to him the sparks haven't been present. Though last year when we said 'bye at the end of a day out with friends, he touched my arm and I felt the most incredible jolt! But it was a really physical feeling, not just an internal butterflies / wobbly knees thing.

both wearing jeans! (I am offended at the suggestion that I might wear, or be attracting to someone wearing, nylon trousers Wink). It was middle of winter and I was in a long term relationship at the time so doubt I had shaved my legs.

lol at levitating during sex.

Yes I felt this repeatedly with someone I had a brief flirtation with at uni. If we hadn't both had a boy/girlfriend then it would have gone further but as it was we just had a spin the bottle snog! Pretty sure he felt the same thing as he once said to me "so what are we going to do about this?" and when I coolly replied "about what?" he said "I think you know..." ha ha all sounds quite funny now! But I must say I've always wondered what it might have been like had we got together...

Sparks this sounds so exciting but I'd be wary of going too far with asking him whether he got the same feeling as if he didn't but he does really like you, might he not think you're a bit full on?

Pursue him but keep that to yourself initially until you suspect he might have felt the same?

Yep. And to the point where someone said they could actually see them.

I've had the "leccy" twice. Unfortunately because of the the swooney/stomach churning feelings I overlooked some very bad faults...

thanks for voice of reason chatworth. am definitely going to wait for a while before feeling my way on this, particularly given he is only very recently single out of a ltr. and no I won't launch in about the sparks straight off! nice to know that I may not have imagined it, and that there may be a possibility that he felt it too. have often wondered if I just imagined it!

DH and I didn't feel a physical crackle but we both knew immediately that we would be together and have children.

It was quite scary.

Yeah, once at uni.

Twas AMAZING. I dumped him after 3 weeks of amazing sex because he smoked and had zero personality.

Although I never had the sparks thing the dh, we were friends first, he swears he knew as soon as he saw me...

SparksFlew · 28/02/2011 22:21

see I've known him as a friend for ages ... so not convinced that I would want a ltr with him, let alone children. I know too many of his faults already!

Would jump his bones though, especially if we got some of that spark going Wink

Yeah - the sex was fantastic but the conversation lacked a certain depth Grin

I haven't had sparks. But I have had a weird thing where me and the other person got completely lost in each other and "coming back" afterwards was distinctly weird and disorientating. It was a definite sensation of being back in the room like I had been somewhere else. The only thing I can liken it to is descriptions I've read of out-of-body experiences. He said he experienced it like we both rose up and rotated while stars all fell around us, even though we obviously didn't. (It took me ages to get this out of him because at first he started to tell me and then he said it was stupid and I would laugh. It's basically a common 'falling in love' scene in many RPG games/anime type films if it seems random to anyone. I didn't laugh :))

Yes, I was working as a receptionist, served some guy and as he was walking away he turned round and looked at me and it was like a physical jolt of electricity, didn't fancy him in the slightest though lol.
