And why?

londone17 Sun 04-Aug-13 19:39:59

Nobody? I like Eddie Grundy. I dislike a few of them, Brian and Jenny, Shula and Pip.

meriambeetle Sun 04-Aug-13 22:00:12

I know it isn't a popular choice but I still love Lillian and Matt. They used to be believable and make me laugh.

londone17 Sun 04-Aug-13 22:26:02

Yes, they off set each other and live the high life! They're rebels.

TeaandCake Wed 07-Aug-13 11:42:55

Can't stand Tom or any of the Bridge Farm lot really. I read about their treatment of Sharon and Hayley (on MN) after John's death. Bastards.

Will. God, I wish something awful would happen to him. He's so bloody angry the whole time. I think there will be a domestic abuse storyline somewhere in the future here. Nic is in a vulnerable position now and she does not seem able to talk sense into him much anymore.

Shula. You can hear her wringing her hands every time she opens her mouth. Sod off!
I still think it was her who sent the anonymous letter to the Bishop about Alan and Usha. Nasty cow.

I love Brian! I know we're supposed to hate him, He's fab though!
Always loved Lillian but recent storylines have changed my mind a bit.
Love Jenny, she's the most outrageous snob but I love it when she gets knocked off her perch (Alice & Chris marriage storyline), brilliant!

Really like Usha - one of the few strong women who is not an Archer.
I can't think of anyone I really dislike, Tom, Pat, Cathy can all be a bit annoying of course.

Gigondas Wed 07-Aug-13 18:23:30

Agree with a lot of teaandcake. Cant help liking Bryan , Jennifer or Lilian.

I think cathy - she is so moany and self centred.

Helen - spoiled, silly and vacuous.

TheYamiOfYawn Wed 07-Aug-13 18:23:53

Love love love Lynda Snell. She is so funny, and always means well, even when she gets things wrong, and she is interested in stuff.

Worst? The young characters are mostly rubbish, and Helen is beyond wet.

Ponders Wed 07-Aug-13 18:28:11

Fallon is sound

Gigondas Wed 07-Aug-13 18:37:42

Yes and I don't mind joelene either.

MiniTheMinx Wed 07-Aug-13 18:42:52

Emma, always moaning but even if she wasn't moaning, that voice is so snivelly.

Ponders Wed 07-Aug-13 20:56:26

Neil is ok too. I love it when he growls like Marge Simpson

JessieMcJessie Wed 07-Aug-13 21:07:29

Susan, reliably gossipy and so well acted. Remember "Nisha" coming to dinner? And since Alice and Chris got married, Any scene with both Susan and Jennifer in it has been sublime.

Worst, well it used to be Phil, no contest, dull old bugger, but now his namesake granddaughter Pip has assumed the mantle- somebody lock her in a mega dairy and throw away the key, please.

londone17 Wed 07-Aug-13 22:09:50

How true, he was boring. Pip is like a child. The rest of her
family are quiet and level headed. Usha's strong, independant and intelligent. I hate the Bridge Farm Archers too, self righteous but treat outsiders like dirt.

It kills snobs Jenny and Brian to be related to the Carters. Neil and Chris are way better than them.

Linda and Robert are funny as are Kenton and Jolene, all well matched. Fallon and Kirsty are sensible nice girls. Don't like the new Clary but the Grundy's are great!

heronsfly Thu 08-Aug-13 08:09:02

I cant stand Pip, not keen on any of the Bridge Farm lot,and recently gone off Emma.
Always rather liked Matt, Lil and Kenton.

R4 Thu 08-Aug-13 21:50:31

How can you say bad things about Phil!shock
I can't imagine Norman Painting allowing SATTC and all the current rubbish getting beyond the committee stage.

RocknRollNerd Fri 09-Aug-13 06:23:29

I always think Linda is actually the most genuinely good-hearted person in Ambridge. I had a little tear that time she was helping Vicky out by doing the washing and had bought the same washing powder/conditioner so her clothes would smell familiar to Bethany. It's the same as when she went and apologised to Jazzer over the clan-chief the other week.

I'm sure I said years ago under a different name that I was worried they were building Will/Nic up to a DV storyline - he went through a really controlling phase about her working in the pub, and his comment about how he put her straight about a baby name the other day had a real 'edge' to it. I always think he comes across as really horrible.

Optimist1 Fri 09-Aug-13 07:13:05

Lynda rocks!

Wyfee Fri 09-Aug-13 07:39:34

I love Lilian, Brian, Jennifer. Can't bear pat: she's so self-righteous and moany and always gets her way in the end. I'm missing Alan and Usha at the moment. Where are they?

londone17 Fri 09-Aug-13 21:09:18

I've been wondering that too!

londone17 Fri 16-Aug-13 20:25:13

I like David and Ruth too.

I have a love hate thing about Alice. Her voice and intonation annoys me so much, but I also find her weirdly attractive...

David irritates me, I like Ruth though. Tom sausage I'm fond of, and Helen as she's so vulnerable.

Agree Nic Will relationship is worrying.

Gigondas Fri 16-Aug-13 20:39:24

David does redeem himself at times - he was sweet to Lizzy when she was upset.

Ponks Fri 16-Aug-13 21:42:16

Love Brian but agree he has mellowed!

Tony winds me up - for ever moaning about everything. It makes me laugh how he doesn't like Cathy when really they were made for each other smile.

Pip has one of the most annoying voices on radio.

Graceparkhill Fri 16-Aug-13 21:46:08

I really like Jill and wish she was my mum. I cannot abide Tom, or Helen but like others have a soft spot for Lynda Snell.

Brillig Mon 19-Aug-13 15:11:34

My hates (and they're almost all hates unfortunately) vary according to who's in the spotlight at the moment. For example, I'm remembering just how much I loathe Kathy, although the Man From the Golf Club is an absurd pantomime villain too.

But I really do hate Hellin, Pip, Lizzy, bitter Will, equally bitter Emmur, Sooosan and JennyDarling. The latter's habit of uttering a breathy little 'Ho!' at the beginning of every sentence is seriously doing my head in these days.

Is there anyone I really like? Actually, no hmm

TreeMonkey Tue 27-Aug-13 13:58:38

I love Matt, Lynda and Brian but I can't stand Pip or Tom - its their voices and Pat and Kathy especially when they constantly moan.

Love to hate Helen, Brenda, Lillian and Martin Gibson especially when he said to Pat "your's was the e-coli farm". Brilliant!

TheOriginalSteamingNit Tue 27-Aug-13 14:01:39

Unpopular choice, but Linda Snell is not a bad egg. She is kind and thoughtful and committed to stuff, and people are vile to her!

Least favourite.... well, my 'short'list would be Shula, Kathy and Hellin, probably. And Jennyfur. And Nic. And Willyerm. And George.

GrimmaTheNome Tue 27-Aug-13 14:09:18

Lynda, as expounded already is great. Always like Eddie and Joe. Fallon is the best of the younger ones.

Shula is the worst - so nasty to Usha ...have an affair with her fiancée and then later get all sanctimonious about her marrying the vicar.

Emma ... except I rather enjoyed her frank dissing of religion. That takes some balls in a place like Ambridge!

My all-time favourite was Mrs Antrobus. And the Gabriels.

Miss Nigel. Freddie is shaping up to be somewhat of the rich but dim substitute but (perhaps understandably) doesn't have the same joie de vivre - think that early expectation to be the man about the estate will crush his ability for pranks. sad

MrsMinkBernardLundy Tue 27-Aug-13 14:17:40

Love Lynda heart of gold. comedy value.
Neil is the nicest person of the lot and good at diy.

Kathy sets my teeth on edge.
Alice is irritating.
Pat is sanctimonious.
And Will is just all round unpleasant.
Helen is amazingly self centered

Quite like Jazzer for just being himself and really felt for him when he fell for Fallon - he could have started a MN thread for that wonder what advice he would have got?

Jim is also moderately amusing for being so very classical.
Where has Rhys gone?

Abra1d Tue 27-Aug-13 14:26:45

I like Neil, Brian, Jim, 'Tiger' and 'Pussy cat'.

I used to like Debbie in the days before she was into industrial farming and the profit margin above anything else.

Kate is possibly my most loathed.

JollyGolightly Wed 28-Aug-13 14:11:33

Another vote for Linda here. I'm hoping we'll be hearing plenty of her as the temporary manager from hell storyline unfolds. Yesterday's 'of course we were early adopters of earl grey' was genius. little nuggets like that keep me listening.

londone17 Thu 29-Aug-13 20:00:49

Linda gets better and better! Yes, Mrs A was my fave too.

OliviaMMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 04-Sep-13 22:22:34

<marking place>

GrimmaTheNome Wed 04-Sep-13 22:37:49

I've somehow kept missing TA over the last couple of weeks but caught it tonight. Hope Lynda saves the day as this weird Ray bloke causes disaster and gets promoted... I'm sure she could do a much better job of managing the place.

R4 Thu 05-Sep-13 01:16:54

I've been thinking that I might nominate Jill as the worst character, or at least the one with the worst script.shock
She spent years being Matriarch but now that she is redundant from her wife&mother role she seems to have disappeared into a puff of nothingness. She has morphed into the Invisible Woman.

LondonMother Sun 08-Sep-13 09:54:05

Brian is wonderful. Jennifer is wonderfully awful and so are Lynda and Susan. Emma is shaping up well to take over from her mother as the Village Shrew. Joe Grundy and Jazzer are OK. I quite liked Lilian until she took up with Paul. Matt is good value but I haven't heard any of the AmEx shenanigans - has he changed out of all recognition? I enjoy hearing Tony moaning. Chris Carter is rather sweet. I like Neil Carter, who is a decent sort, and Kenton, who can be amusing. Don't mind Jolene and Fallon. Jill reminds me of my mum and so I am very fond of her.

Most of the rest are either irritating and bland, or just plain irritating. I don't know which is worse. Not enough 3-d characters at the moment.

stowsettler Fri 13-Sep-13 13:04:49

Why is it that I find I really like the characters I think I'm supposed to hate (Brian, Linda, Matt, Lilian e.g.) but bloody LOATHE the ones I think I'm meant to like:-
Helen - fuuuuuuckkkkkk I hate this woman. Recent events have had me dry heaving on my commute into work (podcast downloader). Self-righteous, entitled, moaning cow.
Tom - dull as ditchwater.
Tony - not too bad compared to his repellent offspring. At least he has a vague idea of what life in the real world is like.
Alice - irritating posh bint.
Will - aaaaarrrrgh. No one would really put up with him like Nic does. I'd have done him in years ago.
Ruth - I think she'd be ok but that bloody voice!
David - self-righteous old git but actually improving I think.
Lizzie - better since she forgave Dave. But I think it may be time to let Nigel RIP now.

Oooh so glad I found this Archers cornucopia. It's the only soap I follow.

stowsettler Fri 13-Sep-13 13:07:20

Oh yes, and Peggy - dreadful old snob.

nennypops Sat 14-Sep-13 12:20:08

Latest irritation: Darren. I want to slap him around and tell him to stop whining.

Hoping Lillian might now go back to likeable after that prolonged phase of glugging all over Jolene.

HumphreyCobbler Sat 14-Sep-13 12:23:46

I like Brian and Linda best.

Will is the most annoying character, closely followed by Helen.

londone17 Tue 17-Sep-13 21:23:15

Oh yes, forgot about self righteous Peggy and Darren's self pitying. Will and Helen are heading for a fall. Bring Mrs A back!

SenoritaViva Fri 27-Sep-13 21:47:18

Also love Linda, never one to admit when she's wring and she has a strong sense of self.

Cathy isn't worth hating as she is so dull yet I still do.

Brenda gets my goat. Why did she allow Lillian to walk all over her like that?

I hate the bridge farm lot too but glad they're there!

Olbasoil Sun 06-Oct-13 10:33:40

Emma... Nasty, bitchy ,foul creature.

SomewhereBeyondTheSea Sun 06-Oct-13 18:36:29

Moany Tony makes me stabby.

Quite like Brenda's new sense of empowerment though she used to irritate me when she just put up with Lil and moped about it. Much better since she got rid of the godawful Sausage King. He is the epitome of cheese - born to be about 40 years old ...
