Why does the radio news have to be so graphic?

I am considering not listening anymore
I can't bear to constantly answer questions such as "what is a murderer?"
"Did that boy die?" "Why was a woman's body found in a bin?" etc etc
It's disgraceful. There no let up from this soulnumbing 'news'

i turn it off when dd is around for that reason. but it is news, you can't expect them to spell out scary words

I know, but is it really news?
Seems more like a catalogue of violence sometimes

Was on a similar thread the other day "Mummy, what is rape?"

It IS difficult

I think you have to give them answers they can understand though

Some stuff just cant be shielded - i.e, news stands, billboards, newspaper headlines etc. IME it's easy to switch the radio off but once they start reading... BANG! Innoecence gone

I turn the news off when dd is around for exactlyvthis reason.

She doesn't need to know some parents kill their children, that people sexually abuse babies or that a whole family has been killed in a housefire.

I know it is news but it is far too graphic for children.

I've stopped buying a paper 'cos I started finding that reading them was making me anxious and if they can do that to me then what can they do to a 5 year old !

I think it's too graphic for adults at times too.
I wonder how numb we have become to the lurid deetails from so many awful cases

its more about ratings than new, or so it seems. why else did we have tigerwoods droning on on national news last week.
