Following on from a comment by DadDadDad on the spoilers thread, any predictions for the birth?

D3 has already picked 6 May.

I'm going for 13 May, 6lb 2 oz, Jonathan.

Why is weight one of the pieces of information that gets circulated after a birth? Is it meant to be an indication of health?

My DS was born weighing 2lb 2oz (that's not a typo). He's about 5ft 6in now, taller than his mum, and likes playing rugby. Grin

Thanks redshoe and sorry I was too lazy to google it myself Blush

I think you're right D3 & it also helps with buying presents. My DD was much smaller than expected & a different gender. She spent her first few weeks in red, lime green & navy baby grows with knots tied in the ends.

I think the weight thing is because there's very little to say about a newborn especially when people often know the sex in advance so it's just something to say in addition to name. It's certainly not interesting in most cases!

R4 · 18/04/2016 22:27

It's fairly interesting to the poor woman who has to push it out! The news of a large birth-weight is usually met with an "Shock ouch!"

DadDadDad · 18/04/2016 22:41

Right, so my other theory was that a higher weight gives the woman bragging rights about the size of her birth canal but I hesitated to write that on MN. Confused Thanks to R4 for confirming. Grin

May 4th, 5lb 8oz and he will have two names. One that Helen calls him, for which I favour Jonathan as Sticker suggested and one that Knob will miraculously be well enough to put on birth certificate. Damien, natch.
