Archers: Fiction turned to reality with fundraising for Refuge (to rescue Helen)

I apologise if I have double-posted (I had a quick look), but I can see that I am not alone in having a "love/hate" relationship with the Rob & Helen domestic violence/financial abuse story-line.

I don't listen to the episodes at 7pm (as i don't trust myself not to swear in front of DD) so make do with a quick look at the Archers Appreciation F'book page rants before listening later on.

It was a stroke of pure genius (better than the fake reviews of Grey Gables etc on Tripadvisor): One of the members decided to set up a Justgiving page to rescue "Helen". The money is being raised for the charity "Refuge", a charity that I suspect many of us know about (and hope we never have to use).

Last Thursday Paul Trueman's campaign was hoping to raise £1,000, then a bit more...and a bit more...Then the TV and newspapers heard about it

At time of posting a massive £40k has been raised (with another £8k in giftaid). That's nearly £50k from miffed listeners!

The justgiving page is here:

I just hope this doesn't just encourage Sean O'Connor to continue! I expect to hear about a pancake race on Shrove Tuesday!

It's brill isn't it? Using fiction to focus on a horrible reality others are living through.

You'll get your comeuppance one day Mr Rob Titchner and I'll be listening and be a witness to your evil-ness in the last year.

It is up to £54k now.

I wish the SW would promise us something like 'if you get the total to 100k then Helen will escape that week'. Then we could all put in some more money and this torture would end, for Helen and us.
