I apologise if I have double-posted (I had a quick look), but I can see that I am not alone in having a "love/hate" relationship with the Rob & Helen domestic violence/financial abuse story-line.
I don't listen to the episodes at 7pm (as i don't trust myself not to swear in front of DD) so make do with a quick look at the Archers Appreciation F'book page rants before listening later on.
It was a stroke of pure genius (better than the fake reviews of Grey Gables etc on Tripadvisor): One of the members decided to set up a Justgiving page to rescue "Helen". The money is being raised for the charity "Refuge", a charity that I suspect many of us know about (and hope we never have to use).
Last Thursday Paul Trueman's campaign was hoping to raise £1,000, then a bit more...and a bit more...Then the TV and newspapers heard about it
At time of posting a massive £40k has been raised (with another £8k in giftaid). That's nearly £50k from miffed listeners!
The justgiving page is here:
www.justgiving.com/helentitchener/
I just hope this doesn't just encourage Sean O'Connor to continue! I expect to hear about a pancake race on Shrove Tuesday!
