Just don't be so careless with your watch Helen

Gigondas Tue 18-Feb-14 22:07:33

Marking spot but I agree jolly , he clearly doesn't give a toss about cheating on Jess.

orangina Tue 18-Feb-14 22:16:34

Minimammoth Tue 18-Feb-14 22:18:45

Helen described what she was cooking - he made no demur - when he came in he had a drama llama attack - can that be tuna? I can't stand the smell and taste of tuna! - Helen is aghast, points out she mentioned the tuna - he says he can't have heard that bit - she is apologetic and offers to make him an omelette - they eat tagliatelle (which she made herself!) with an arrabbiata sauce instead and once again all is well - until the next time.

Is this gaslighting?

PS Lovely thread title!

JollyGolightly Tue 18-Feb-14 22:23:47

A masterclass in gaslighting.

I could have sworn they said penne arrabiata, the lovingly hand-stroked tagliatelle having been consigned to the dustbin, besmirched by fishy sauce.

PseudoBadger Tue 18-Feb-14 22:25:48

Perfect gaslighting.

But who makes tagliatelle? I'm sure I'm aghast enough for all my fellow low carbing Archers fans grin

Martorana Tue 18-Feb-14 22:28:56

I must have led a very sheltered life- I really didn't know people did things like the pasta incident. Bizarre!

Burma Tue 18-Feb-14 22:31:34

He wasn't really listening though was he when she ran through the list of ingredients? not that I want to let him off the hook or anything!

I just want it over and for her to be back in the bosom of Pat and Tony.

GypsyFloss Tue 18-Feb-14 22:36:34

I thought he sounded quite hesitant when she listed their dinner on the phone so I am prepared to accept that he might indeed not like tuna . However the polite thing would have been to explain that he really appreciated her cooking for him but he didn't like tuna etc etc . Instead he threw a childish hissy fit that, had it happened in my kitchen , would have had said child sent to their room. What a twunt.

ZeroSomeGameThingy Tue 18-Feb-14 22:37:27

Yes I thought the pasta had changed. I wanted to weep for Helen; the thought of her spending the afternoon anticipating and evening lovingly hand making her perfect supper.

Heartbreaking. And very clever to make us feel sorry for someone so generally unappealing.

TemperamentalAroundCorvids Tue 18-Feb-14 22:39:25

It is not true gaslighting, IMHO. He admitted he hadn't been listening, rather than denying she had told him in the first place.

PseudoBadger Tue 18-Feb-14 22:47:21

But he has form, he did it to Jess.

PseudoBadger Tue 18-Feb-14 22:48:17

Anyway, the reply should be "well I did tell you, so what are you cooking yourself instead? Well you should've listened then"

CuttedUpPear Tue 18-Feb-14 22:54:07

Rob has a fish problem.

First the salmon.
Now the tuna.

Helen was lucky not to have had it flung to the floor.
<wonders if the carpet still smells from the last fish related strop>

Am loving it

PseudoBadger Tue 18-Feb-14 22:59:50

You're right, he does have a fish problem!

Poor Helen, she didn't do it on porpoise. She had to replaice the dinner sad

Martorana Tue 18-Feb-14 22:59:55

Salmon?

GypsyFloss Tue 18-Feb-14 23:02:00

Ah Pseudo you're codding me .

SomethingOnce Tue 18-Feb-14 23:03:01

Double pregnancy for J and H.

Ooh, this please!

[mean]

PseudoBadger Tue 18-Feb-14 23:04:34

Poor Helen feels gillty now. She's a dab hand at pasta making when she gets the opportunaty. I think this relationship could get a shoal lot worse.

CuttedUpPear Tue 18-Feb-14 23:08:06

Rob chucked Jess's dressed salmon on the floor in a stroppy attempt to ruin her housewarming party not that long ago.

PseudoBadger Tue 18-Feb-14 23:08:23

I think any pregnancy aspect to this SL would be a mistake, and would dilute its impact.

Benzalkonium Tue 18-Feb-14 23:08:59

Do tony and pat not have spare land? Since they selt their herd? I thought tom was still planning How to plant it. Why didn't David ask them?
