I disagree. It was her moaning about money that tipped Darrell over to the dark side. He should have told her that! She preyed on his weakness as much as anyone else.
I do find it funny that she stood by him in prison, during precarious under-employment, doing cash-in-hand jobs, being nearly killed etc. But what was the final straw? What eventually made Elona say 'enough is enough'? The ultimate trauma was ... a dinner party with JD.
I'm not so sure about Elona, at one time she did nothing but nag, one of the girls needed a keyboard, then lessons, then a moped, then they needed a new washing machine, i think she pushed him into earning money anyway he could and i cant stand her hard done by voice.
I was chuckling at 'Kitchen Supper' - it was so very Jilly Cooper which fits with Jennifer splendidly.
The more interesting bit of this plot isn't going to be Elona and Darrell, it's going to be when it comes out that Neil knew what was going on and that Darrell was involved - suspect he might lose his hallowed position as all round village good guy (chair of the PCC, on the Parish Council, source of wise counsel etc). I hope Darrell gets custody of their two whingeing daughters - Elona deserves much better! Perhaps she could move in with Peggy...
