Cleaning up an eBay pram?

toomuchtooyoung · 04/07/2010 16:45

I've just bought a 2nd had pram from eBay and want to give it a good clean. I've stripped all the canvas/fabric parts off and machine washed what I could and bath soaked and scrubbed other bits, but there are still some stains visible. So far i've only used a non-bio washing liquid, but is it safe to use a stronger detergent? Any recommendations?

i used lemon juice on my p+t,
it was totally filthy but this really helped,
(after soaking and machine washing)
i also used some ecover mold and mildew remover for the tougher spots...

I used biological washing powder and a scrubbing brush in the bath. I think the powder really rubs it well, I've done this 3 times so far with excellent results. HTH

Id use a liquid as opposed to the powder that way theres no grainy residue.

All you need is a good shower in the bath and there will be no grainy residue

Thanks all, I'll give it another go with a biological detergent, and something lemony. I presume that using something as harsh as Vanish wouldn't be recommended?

I have machine washed some mouldy covers at 60 with bio powder and napisan. They came out fine and didn't shrink. They were spotless afterwards.

Napisan is fab stuff (I suspect it is the same as vanish - but less expensive!). I have washed coloureds and whites with it - with no ill effect. It does seem to shift some stubborn stains - and I guess it will "sanitise" at the same time!

I have scrubbed a pushchair down with neat liquid detergent and then hosed down in the garden to rinse on a very hot summers day before - I was delighted with the result! (going back a few years - it was a hauck buggy - which could face parent or away - was pink and mint striped with minnie mouse motifs all over...sounds hideous now - but I saved for 8 months to buy it for my daughter and we loved it!) LOL
