Would you buy this 2nd hand P+T??

We have a Phil and Ted, about 4 years old and well used! The shopping basket bit at the bottom is ripped and has been repaired with a cable tie! There is a bit of damage to the edge of the foam at the handle bit, and a small tear at the footplate.

Other than that the pram has been cleaned up well, is in working condition, and we have all the bits, including the raincover and the cocoon thingy. Also a bit to convert to allow a maxi-cosi car seat to be plugged on.

We no longer need it, and I am loathe to chuck out a serviceable, if a bit worn, pram. We are thinking of putting an ad in the local paper and selling it fairly cheaply- we're not daft enough to think it is worth a great deal of money, but maybe someone would want it?

What do you think- are we wasting our time? We have noone to give it to, so would mean throwing it away otherwise. Would any of you consider a 2nd hand pram in this sort of condition, considering that brand new they are in the region of £400? If you think it's feasible to sell it, how much do you think we should ask for??

Any advice welcome- I'm really not sure!

do you know you can buy new covers?
i got some for my P&T when i gave it to my SIL and it was like new (after 4 years of hard labour!)
here

would be worth adding that to whatever ad you place.

Ooh- thanks for that, amidaiwish- wish I'd known that when we were using it!

Im not sure about selling it tbh - perhaps freecycle?

I did think of freecycle, but I'm not really sure how it works. We are pretty skint (and saving hard for a holiday atm) so if we could sell it, even for £20, it would be better!

What about advertising it in the supermarket and papershop dont point out the faults quite as up front as you did on here and perhaps someone will want it.

Is it possible to trim the foam,to neaten it up a bit? perhaps remove the basket and offer it as well instead of attatched with a cable tie?can you sew or glue the footplate?

Yeah- I'm wondering whether it's worth forking out for a new footwell/ shopping basket and seeing if the foam could be replaced if it means we might be able to sell it for more

Have you looked on Ebay? There are Phil and Teds going on there in all kinds of conditions, usually for at least 100 pounds..I know as I'm looking into buying a very cheap one!

It might be worth your while - people will buy anything, and pushchairs have a really good resale value.

I'd liet it as is on ebay and list all the faults. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much you get for it. As long as you point out the faults it's up to those who bid how much they pay for it.

Good Luck!

I could be interested for dog walking!

i agree about ebay, as long as you're totally up front about all the faults, and make sure you put an accurate postage amount otherwise if it goes for very little you could be out of pocket on the postage. I think a lot of people might be interested and think they'll get a bargain.

kit84- dog walking is the reason it is so worn!! It has had a LOT of off-roading through forests in its day, and stood up to it really well!

I sold one in the same condition (ripped footwell, hole in foam handles etc)
In fact just re-read op, mine had exactly the same problems, must be common!
I sold it to someone I knew form toddler groups for £250 with cocoon raincover all the bits and bobs.
If you need the money don't freecycle it you'll defo get some decent money for it.

Get a new basket. Out and about will also give you some free finger guards.

I sold my 4 year old one with doubles kit and cocoon for for £225. Definitely worth selling.
